Komtie!

2. Choi Mu Bae defeated Giant Silva in the 1st round in 5 minutes with a front choke. An ugly fight, with Mu Bae having little trouble taking the big man down.

3. Ryan Gracie defeated Yoji Anjoh in the 1st round 8 minutes, 30 seconds with an arm-lock after a choke sleeper.

http://ca1n.c.yimg.jp/sportsnavi/20041231_pride/sportsnavi.yahoo.co.jp/fight/pride/photo/200412/31/a03/pict/pict14.jpg

Anjoh came to the fight wearing the black singlet without the wrestling shoes. Ryan came in with a blue knee brace on his right knee and looked in decent shape. The first few minutes of the fight was all Ryan, as he was on top of Anjoh on the ground. The referees tried to place Ryan and Anjoh back in the middle of the ring (because they were by the ropes) and Ryan looked pissed off big time at the referee (Toyonaga). It took as much time to get a fight re-start as the fight lasted at that point. Once it was re-started, the same argument happened again. Gracie went for a front choke, but got reversed. Ryan went for a choke sleeper and cinched it. After a few minutes of it being cinched (and Anjoh not flipping his body around to reverse it), Ryan went for the arm-lock from his back and got it on Anjoh for the win. A remarkably boring fight. Anjoh looked exhausted within three-to-five minutes.

After the match, they ran a pro-wrestling style angle with Ryan Gracie grabbing the microphone. Kazuhiro Nakamura entered the ring and the two were challenging each other. Nobuhiko Takada, who was watching the Anjoh/Ryan fight at ringside, came into the ring and talked to both men. Nakamura got back on the microphone, and the referees separated a mini-pull-apart brawl. Ryan got back on the microphone as the referees tried to keep Nakamura back into a corner. This was the old "you want me? Let's fight right here right now!" angle.

4. Ryo Chonan defeated Anderson Silva in the 3rd round in around four minutes with a fast heelhook submission for the win. Silva featured in the black and gold tights, Chonan in the white trunks with red lettering. Anderson had the clear height advantage. Anderson took Chonan down to the mat and went for a choke sleeper right away. It was like watching a snake wrap around a mouse and suffocating it because of Silva's long, lanky legs. Chonan was caught for several minutes, yet Silva didn't get the sleeper applied. A wasted opportunity, as Chonan was able to escape and get on top while Anderson moved to his back. Chonan started throwing punches to Silva's face. Both guys were in the same position for a few minutes. Chonan tried to deliver more blows, but Anderson would catch him in his guard and prevent much damage from occurring. A yellow card was issued for stalling. Both men stood back up, and Anderson knocked Chonan down, who quickly got back up. Anderson showed his clear punching advantage standing up, as he was aggressive in striking. Chonan went for a kick, but nothing happening. End of round one. Not a relatively entertaining first round.

Round two started and quickly went to the ground with Anderson mounted on Chonan. Both guys back up, and little activity in the first minute. Anderson went on the sriking attack, but Chonan took him down and was on top. Anderson went for the guard, but Chonan wiggled out and remained on top. Anderson tried to nail Chonan, but couldn't. Chonan went to strike on top, but Anderson defended it well. End of round two. Exceptionally uneventful.

Round three started with Anderson landing a shot on Chonan and Chonan went to the mat, and got back up. The stand-up between both men has been lackluster and remained that way for a few minutes. Out of nowhere, Chonan went after Silva (and I mean out of nowhere just jumped on Anderson's leg while he was standing) and applied a heel hook for the submission. A very impressive finish to a rather poor fight performance.

5. Makoto Takimoto defeated Sentoryu (Miller) after three arounds by judges' decision.

Miller came in the ring in actually fairly decent physical condition. He looked a little smaller than his previous fights. The fight starts with Miller trying to be aggressive with striking, while Takimoto holds his right arm out for protection. Takimoto tried to get Miller into the corner, but nothing happening. Miller connected with a good shot on Takimoto, but Takimoto stayed up. Takimoto looks very uncomfortable striking, but has good balance. A couple of minutes of both guys standing up with little activity, but Miller clearly the aggressive fighter. Surprisingly good balance shown by Miller. Takimoto looks scared to death to take a punch from Miller. Half-way through the first round, and not much action. Miller went to nail Takimoto and Takimoto put him against the ropes. Takimoto tried to mount on Miller, but Miller turned the tables and Takimoto was lying on his back in a vulnerable position. Takimoto was moved from the ropes towards the center of the ring, and Miller just let Takimoto get back up standing. Back in the center of the ring, and after a minute of delay, Miller just nailed Takimoto against the ropes, but Takimoto continued to stand. Takimoto continued to put his right arm out as a barrier between himself and Miller. Two minutes left in the round, and shockingly this fight has been all standing up. With one minute left, Miller was just waiting and picking his spots with Takimoto. Miller saving a lot of energy up because of Takimoto's inactivity. Takimoto got too close to Miller and Miller just nailed him with a good right punch as the round came to a close.

Round two starts and Miller is on the aggressive move, as he punched Takimoto once and got into a clinch with Takimoto against the ropes (with Miller having the leverage advantage). Both guys continued to stand up, with Takimoto trying to figure out what to do. The guys end up on the mat, with Miller on top of Takimoto. Miller worked on preventing Takimoto from turning him over. Takimoto tries to apply a guard but it's not a very good one (mainly because of Miller's size). The fighters are stood back up and we resume stand-up position. Takimoto tried to get into a clinch with Miller, but no luck. Miller tried to nail him with a shot, but unsuccessfully. Under two minutes left in round two, and close-up shots show some blood from Miller. The fight resumes (nothing serious), and we're under one minute left. Miller tries to connect with a good left shot, but Takimoto is playing "hit and away." A yellow card is given for stalling, and the round ends.

Outside the yellow card, nothing Takimoto has done has been very good or positive at all. Miller's clearly been the aggressive fighter and shown some good activity, plus decent stamina.

Round three starts with more stand-up activity, as Miller is once again the aggressive fighter. Miller goes for a shot in the corner and Takimoto is able to move away from being trapped. Miller gets Takimoto backed into a ring corner and gets Takimoto down on the mat. Miller is on top and looking to do some damage. Takimoto's head is underneath the ropes and he has little, if any, leverage. Both guys are back on their feet, and Miller is on the move again. Takimoto is doing absolutely nothing. And I mean nothing. This is awful to watch. Miller is just waiting for Takimoto to make a mistake and pounce, while Takimoto is trying anything to stay as far away from Miller as possible. One minute left to go, and Takimoto gets Miller backed into a ring corner. Takimoto takes down Miller and Miller is on his back for the first time in the fight. Miller's size is proving to be a problem for Takimoto, and Miller ends up on his feet while Takimoto is still laying on the mat - this is a dangerous position for Takimoto, but the bell sounds and Takimoto looks very disappointed with himself. There are blood stains (from Miller) on the Judo gi of Takimoto.

6. Rulon Gardner defeated Hidehiko Yoshida after three rounds by judges' decision.

http://sportsnavi.yahoo.co.jp/fight/pict/200412/31/041231_kak_pride_dai6_1_b.jpg

http://sportsnavi.yahoo.co.jp/fight/pict/200412/31/041231_kak_pride_dai6_2_b.jpg

http://sportsnavi.yahoo.co.jp/fight/pict/200412/31/041231_kak_pride_dai6_5_b.jpg

Gardner looks very confident. The start time of the fight was 8:24 PM JST, meaning it is not going against the K-1 show. The rules of the fight are being explained both to the fighters and the TV side. Round one starts and Gardner is looking for some action. Both men standing up, and Yoshida goes down. Gardner pounces right on top of him and is going after him. Gardner showing great positioning on the mat and Yoshida is flat on his back. Yoshida looks to be in some trouble here. Gardner showing good aggression on the mat, as his full weight is right on top of Yoshida. Yoshida is in a very defensive position. Both men are stood up. Gardner is able to get Yoshida down to the mat again and Yoshida looks tired. Both men are put back in the center of the ring with Gardner on top. Gardner is trying to go after Yoshida's face, with Yoshida clinging on. Both men are back standing up and Gardner is on the offensive. Yoshida shows some balance and fights back, but Gardner gets Yoshida down in a front face lock position. Yoshida is back up. Half-way through the first round. Both men still standing, and there is a lot of stalling going on right now between the two. Under three minutes left, and Gardner is in the better ring position as Yoshida is on the outside facing him. Neither man is giving up their balance, but not much action going on. They start trading blows with under two minutes left. One minute remaining. Gardner gets Yoshida down to the mat for at least the third time in the opening round and this time, it's against a ring corner. Gardner trying to use his position and balance to get Yoshida into trouble, with 30 seconds remaining. End of round one, with a perplexed (and tired) Yoshida in his corner. Gardner looks a little tired, but in rather good physical shape and physically dominated the first round.

Round two starts with both men standing, as Yoshida is trying to use his arms to create a barrier between himself and Gardner. Gardner goes after Yoshida and is on the move. Yoshida doesn't appear to know what strategy to use against Gardner at this moment. Gardner gets Yoshida trapped against the turnbuckles in a ring corner and is standing up, putting pressure and his weight against Yoshida. Yoshida is trapped. Gardner is trying to figure out what to do next here. Two minutes left in round two. Both men are placed back in the center of the ring. Gardner has Yoshida trapped against the ropes again and this time he's making an aggressive move with some strikes. Both men back in the center of the ring with a minute remaining. Yoshida once again is in bad ring position, and Gardner traps him against the turnbuckles in a ring corner. End of round two.

The theme so far is that Gardner has been able to physically get his way with Yoshida, but hasn't done anything to finish him off. Yoshida looks tired and frustrated.

Round three and Yoshida is back-pedalling as Gardner is on the move again standing. Yoshida punches first and Gardner slugs right back with him. Yoshida is down on the mat. Yoshida has his left arm out to try to create a barrier between himself and Gardner. Into a clinch, and Gardner has Yoshida on the ropes. Under a minute left. Gardner gets Yoshida down on the mat and Rulon is on top of him in good position. Back in the center of the ring, and Gardner is standing up and punching while Yoshida is down on the mat. End of round three.

7. Mirko Cro Cop defeated Kevin Randleman very early in the first round with a guillotine choke hold.

http://ca1n.c.yimg.jp/sportsnavi/20041231_pride/sportsnavi.yahoo.co.jp/fight/pict/200412/31/041231_kak_pride_dai7_1_b.jpg

Randleman went for a take down and Mirko, standing up, just held right onto Randleman and choked him out fast for the win. The training with Fabricio Werdum really showed there. That is a scary thought. The odds of Mirko getting a submission win over Randleman at CocoCasino.com were something like 23.6 to 1 (or even higher). Whoever made that "sucker" bet just became a millionaire.

8. Dan Henderson defeated Yuki Kondo after three rounds by judges' decision. A somewhat disputable verdict. Kondo comes to the ring in his white Pancrase jacket and blue tights. Henderson in the black trunks with white trim. Henderson takes Kondo down immediately and is on top. Henderson has his arm wrapped around Kondo's neck. Henderson continues to move around on the mat and so far, no offense from Kondo. Both men standing up, this time Kondo is on top of Henderson on the ground. Kondo is on top, but no real offensive position. Kondo is on top, but now on the side. First five minutes of the round are over, and the second part is under way. Kondo remains on top of Henderson, and not much activity other than light ground-n-pound is occurring. Both men are stood up and are on their feet. Kondo gets Henderson back on the ground and is on top of him again. One minute remaining in the first round. And more of the same. End of round one.

Round two starts and both guys are in a clinch, and move back to the center of the ring. Henderson this time gets Kondo down on the mat and is on top, as Kondo wraps his arms around Henderson's neck. Kondo reverses and gets back on top of Henderson, as Henderosn has his left arm around Kondo's right. Kondo is on the side position now. Not much activity at all in this fight. Both fighters in the north-south position, and neither did anything remotely active. No knee strikes or anything. Under two minutes remaining in round two. A re-start with Kondo on top of Henderson, and now both men are standing. Under a minute remaining. Kondo has Henderson against the ropes with a clinch, but both men still standing. Henderson gets Kondo down on the ground and has his right arm wrapped around Kondo's head. End of round two.

Round three starts and both guys finally start trading some punches. Both guys are in the clinch near a ring corner, and Henderson has a bear hug on Kondo. Down to the mat, and Henderson is on top with Kondo on his back. Kondo is trying to throw a couple of punches towards Henderson's face. Half-way through the final round. Kondo is back on top of Henderson. Henderson reverses, and is back on top of Kondo in a side position. End of fight.

9. Takanori Gomi defeated Jens Pulver in the first round in around 6 minutes by KO from a left hook.

http://ca1n.c.yimg.jp/sportsnavi/20041231_pride/sportsnavi.yahoo.co.jp/fight/pict/200412/31/041231_kak_pride9_1_b.jpg

Pulver in the black trunks, Gomi in the white trunks with red trim. Round one starts and Pulver's eye gets gouged (or hit), but the fighters are back standing up. Both guys feeling each other out and trading shots. All stand-up. Both guys strike each other, but a decent amount of distance between the two. Gomi connects with Pulver a minute later and is starting to show some good boxing skills. Gomi connected with a great left shot and knocked him out. That was an amazing punch. A short fight that Gomi pretty much dominated with a one-sided victory - and he did it with boxing, something that Pulver thought he would have a good advantage coming into the fight.

10. Mark Hunt defeated Vanderlei Silva after three rounds by judges' decision. Mark Hunt comes out with a ball-cap on backwards (New York Yankees hat) and a red sweatshirt on. He looks big. Vanderlei Silva comes out and looks as heelish as he ever has before. He looks extremely confident. Round one starts (both men look tough). Hunt in the bluish trunks with gold/yellow trim, and Silva in the usual black/white trunks. Huge size advantage for Hunt. Hunt in the center of the ring, and Vanderlei on the outside. Silva goes for the attack and strikes Hunt, but Hunt gets his balance back and Silva is positioned against one of the ring corners. Hunt has Silva standing against the ropes and this is all-standing so far. Silva nails Hunt with a big shot, and Hunt gets back up after falling on the ropes. Three minutes have elapsed in round one. Hunt still standing in the center of the ring and Vanderlei still on near the ropes. The fighters go down and here comes Silva on top of Hunt, as Hunt tries a guard and has his arms wrapped around Vanderlei's head. Silva is going for a choke it appears, and Hunt doesn't look to be in great position. Silva decides to go for an arm lock, but Hunt manages to reverse it and is now on top of Silva. Big weight advantage here will comes into play. Silva has Hunt in the guard and Hunt is trying to figure out what to do next, as Vanderlei has his arms wrapped around Hunt's neck. About half-way done through round one, and Hunt is still on top with Vanderlei on the defense. Hunt goes for a strike on the mat on Silva's face, and afterwards gets back up and stands. Back on the ground, and this time Vanderlei is on top with Hunt on his back. Hunt has the guard cinched on. Both fighters got back up, and this time Hunt got back on top of Silva. End of round one.

A very intriguing tactical battle so far with both men. Considering the short time notice and his ankle injury, Hunt looks respectable so far and Vanderlei has to figure out a way to come back against a guy with much more size than him.

Round two starts and Hunt is back on top of Silva again on the mat, and Silva puts on the guard. Hunt remains on top and Vanderlei is trying to strike at Hunt's head as he is on his back. Both guys are back standing up. Silva manages to beat Hunt striking and gets on top of him on the ground. Half of round two has expired. Silva is striking to the side of Hunt's head and figuring out strategy at the same time. Hunt isn't in terrific defensive position right now. Re-start and Vanderlei remains on top of Hunt. Hunt reverses and now is back on top of Silva. Hunt is using his right arm to try to create some separation by pushing on Silva's chin. Under a minute to go, and Hunt is a making a push to steal round two. End of round two.

Round three starts, and the guys are trading blows. Hunt manages to get Silva down to the mat. Both guys are back standing, as Hunt manages to throw some knees to the head of Vanderlei. Silva manages to take down Hunt and Hunt now has the guard on him. Under three minutes to go. Both guys are back in the middle of the ring standing. Silva manages to get Hunt down and is trying to work for a finish. Hunt is showing good defense and has his arms wrapped around Silva like a bear hug. The size is clearly an advantage here. Silva is trying for a choke here (it appears). However, Hunt managed to slip down on the positioning and Vanderlei is too far up to try to get any hold on. End of round three.

Silva may not be happy with the decision, but this is the correct one. He looked frustrated and out of his game. Hunt surprised him several times with counters to holds, including choke sleepers and arm-locks. Hunt showed amazing potential and this was a complete 180-degree turn from the horrible 10/31 Saitama fight performance against Dan Bobish.

Vanderlei has nothing to be ashamed about here, he just ended up facing a guy who used his size to his advantage and knew what he wanted to do.

11. PRIDE GP 2004 Championship & PRIDE Heavyweight Title Match: Emelianenko Fedor defeated Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira after three rounds by judges' decision.

Nobuhiko Takada read the championship declaration before the fight. Round one starts, and both guys measure each other up for strikes. Feeling out process in the first two minutes. Fedor manages to get Nogueira on the ground and is on top of the Brazilian. After some groundwork, both men were back standing up. Fedor & Nogueira continue to trade strikes back and forth. Pretty even first round with Fedor having a slight advantage. Four minutes left in the round. Nogueira manages to get Fedor on the ground, and Fedor is able to reverse it. End of round one. There is a doctor check to look at a cut on Nogueira's face.

Round two starts and more of the same. Fedor and Nogueira trade shots, and Fedor is showing good defense to Nogueira's offense. An even bout, with Fedor having a slight edge so far. Much like parts of round one. Tactical fight the whole way. End of round two.

Round three starts with Fedor on top of Nogueira as Nogueira applies the guard. Fedor manages to stand back up. However, he's back in the guard position. Three minutes left in the round. Nogueira tries to get a submission on Fedor, as he's trying to work on Fedor's left arm. This attempt fails, and both men are back up standing and trading punches. The two men clinch and it's the end of round three.

DSE big boss Nobuyuki Sakakibara came in after the match to read the championship declaration to Fedor. The trophy presentation also occurred. Fedor had a medal with red ribbon around his neck. Takada presented Fedor with the PRIDE championship belt and the GP championship belt. All the ring girls are present as well. Nogueira has a red ribbon medal around his neck as well. Fedor did a microphone performance and bowed to the crowd afterwards. Fedor hugged his wife once he left the ring. He sat down at ringside in a chair with both title belts.
