Duisburg, Germany - As if to top European ’04 MMA achievements, a new promotion, Masters Fight Night starts what is the EU’s biggest tournament series for '05.

Prior to ’04 the rest of the world heard about what was going on in Europe for the most part only when those fighters moved on to UFC or Japan. Diehard fans heard about 2Hot2Handle in Holland, K-1, and maybe M-1 in Russia before Gilbert Yvel and Mirko 'CroCop' Filipovic made the transition to Pride. Other examples ae Andrei Semenov and Amar Suloev, who debuted in the UFC from M-1, but most fans didn’t hear much about or see shows in Europe.

That started to turn around as MMA started to explode in the EU in ’03 with Shooto Latvia, Shooto Lithuania, and EVT in Scandinavia as well as several shows in the UK. That was the year Joakim Hansen from Team Scandinavia won the Shooto belt and Lee Murray from England KO’d Jose 'Pele' Landi-Jons. ’04 brought not only worldwide coverage of European Vale Tudo in Scandinavia plus Shooto in Sweden but also worldwide coverage of MMA breaking out of the Baltic countries with Shooto in Switzerland and Kombat Komplett in Germany. Now ’05 appears to be spreading MMA further.

Within it’s borders Germany has become known mainly for the Outsider Cup series that started in July of ’03 and the German fighters participating in a loose affiliation of academies known as the Outsider Club. Outsider Club’s Bodo Elsbeck has quickly become the matchmaker of choice in Germany, having also been matchmaker for August’s Kombat Komplett show and of course the Outsider Cup. Now he does the same for a show to be called Masters Fight Night.

After one show in ’04 Masters Fight Night will take an extrodinary step on March 26th with the first show in a four-show Grand Prix style series. This first stop in the series is an all-cage MMA show advertised as having ten “free fights with international participation. The winners go on to a mixed MMA/Muay Thai/boxing card in May, then October, and the finals in December with each show taking place at successively larger venues. The series prize is 150,000 euros. So far the teams participating include OC Fight Team, Team Skagen from Denmark, Team Freefight Academy from Paris, and Team CroCop. Yes, that is 'Crocop' as in Mirko’s team. Yes, Mirko is confirmed as cornering his fighters.

The official matchups aren’t yet available but so far the confirmed fighters are:

- Igor Pakrajac (Team CroCop)
- Sasa Mucnjak (Team CroCop)
- Lars Besand (Team Skagen)
- Thomas Henrichsen (Team Skagen)
