CNN Headline News Los Angeles (AP) Thursday, February 17, 2005 Posted: 11:59 PM EST (1659 GMT) – reported by Kole Kall Mccrady.
In what apparently began as an internet war of words, Fear Factor host and Ultimate Fighting Championship commentator Joe Rogan was arrested Thursday evening after allegedly punching a patron in the Las Vegas strip club Spearmint Rhino. Rogan, who is known to be a loyal mixed martial arts fan, has had an ongoing feud with fellow mixed martial artist Tony Cecchine, whom he allegedly assaulted Thursday.
The feud began on an internet forum known as The Underground, a popular posting site for fighters and fans alike. A bouncer at the club, Frank Mir, reported seeing Rogan repeatedly scream , “That’s amazing! while viciously attacking a helpless Cecchine who was performing his catch wrestling techniques on some of the unsuspecting dancers.
Rogan was arrested by Los Vegas police for assault and battery. Rogan’s limousine driver, Eddie Bravo, was also arrested for possession of marijuana. Dana White, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, could not be reached for comment as he was making potential fighters throw medicine balls over the top of mid-size walls in the desert.
One patron of the club was particularly upset at Rogan for causing the distrurbance. Kimbo Slice told police that Rogan knocked bread out of his hand while he was watching local celebrity dancer Shelbygirl. “You don’t mess with a nigga’s bread, it just ain’t right, Slice told police.
Coincidentally, Ultimate Fighting Championship current lightweight champion, Manny Reyes, also happened to be at the club on Thursday. When questioned about the incident, Reyes refused comment, stating, “ I have no comment. I know you’ll just tell Hermes.
The fight was captured on film by several tourists, including a man known simply as Kirik, who claimed, “I don’t know anything about this Underground internet forum nonsense, but I think someone needs to be banned from such a sight if they let the internet get to them so much. Kirik’s pictures of the melee will be reproduced into flyer format and distributed to loyal fans of the Underground by Saucyluv33.
Reportedly Rogan was released from jail after a successful mixed martial arts promoter, Monte Cox, posted bail for Rogan. Questioned for comment on his involvement, Cox simply stated he “was looking to find a new heavyweight contender for the UFC belt.
Those wishing to help Eddie Bravo with his legal fees should contact Fearless Goat, who has set up a seminar to help raise money for Bravo, as well raise awareness on the dangers of mixing alcohol with strippers, and also for several other awareness issues that need to be addressed in today’s society.
Kole Kall Mccrady will be following this story and reporting more as it develops.
