Holm turns legend Martin into myth
by Chris Cozzone & Abraham Gallegos
It wasn’t even close. Women’s fight legend Christy Martin might have had the experience, but she had nothing on Albuquerque’s Holly Holm tonight at Isleta Casino in Albuquerque. Over the course of ten rounds, Holm fought a perfect fight, not only hitting and moving, but making Martin pay coming in as well as backing her up with straight left hands as she cruised through ten easy rounds. Martin was confused and unable to land hard combinations--when she did they were returned with interest from the unfazed Holm. After ten, all three judges had it for Holm: 100-90 (Burke of NM), 100-90 (Giampi of NV) and 98-92 (Flutey of FL). Holm rises to the top of the women’s game, with a record of 11-1-2, 4 KOs while Martin, 46-4-2, 31 KOs, is not likely to get that shot at a million dollar payday now.
