You've known about the vast majority of this card for several weeks if you have been checking MMAWeekly's Rumors section, but the complete line-up for UFC 61 has now been revealed.
Main Card Bouts
-Tim Sylvia vs. Andrei Arlovski
-Tito Ortiz vs. Ken Shamrock
-Yves Edwards vs. Joe Stevenson
-Josh Neer vs. Josh Burkman
-Frank Mir vs. Dan Christison
Preliminary Bouts
-Jeff Monson vs. Anthony Perosh
-Drew Fickett vs. Kurt Pellegrino
-Hermes Franca vs. Roger Huerta
-Gilbert Aldana vs. Cheick Kongo
It will be very interesting to see whether the last fight of the evening is actually Sylvia vs. Arlovski, or whether it's Ortiz vs. Shamrock. The vast majority of the hype has gone to Ortiz vs. Shamrock, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it will be the last fight of the evening.
It's refreshing to see fights between quality lightweights (Edwards vs. Stevenson) and welterweights (Neer vs. Burkman) being put on the main card instead of being relegated to the non-televised prelim line-up. There have been plenty of good lightweight and welterweight fights in the past that have been prelims, and it's nice to see that these two fights aren't among them.
It's hard to disagree with Fickett, Franca, and Aldana being in prelim fights since each of these fighters lost in their last UFC bouts, and each of them is facing a debuting UFC fighter.
Frank Mir is on the main card because of his name value and the fact that he's a former UFC Heavyweight Champion. The one thing that stands out in the prelim line-up is the fact that Jeff Monson just beat Marcio Cruz in his previous UFC fight, and the UFC said before that fight (and during the fight on commentary) that Monson's next fight could be for the Heavyweight Title if he were to beat Cruz. Barring a change of plans in the next week or so regarding the prelim line-up, Monson's next fight turned out to be a prelim fight instead of a UFC Heavyweight Title fight.
