The Nevada State Athletic Commission has found that lightweight Kit Cope tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid Boldenone following his stoppage loss to Rob McCullough on Jan. 20, the Wrestling Observer reported Thursday.
Cope and McCullough headlined the first Zuffa-promoted World Extreme Cagefighting card at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. A respected Thai boxer, the 29-year-old Cope's transition to mixed martial arts has been a difficult one, taking just one victory in five fights.
Boldenone, popularly known as Equipose, is an anabolic steroid developed for veterinary use, particularly in the treatment of horses.
_________
Other Info:
Boldenone will increase nitrogen retention, protein synthesis, increases appetite and stimulates the release of erythropoietin in the kidneys. The drug is commonly used in doping within bodybuilding, even though this use is illegal.
Erythropoietin is available as a therapeutic agent produced by recombinant DNA technology in mammalian cell culture. It is used in treating anemia resulting from chronic renal failure or from cancer chemotherapy. Its use is also believed to be common as a blood doping agent in endurance sports such as bicycle racing, triathlons and marathon running.
