Chute Boxe, the famed Brazilian mixed martial arts camp that plays home to PRIDE champion Wanderlei Silva (Pictures) among others, opened its new headquarters on Jan. 17.
Logging in at over 1,000 square meters, the shiny new gym is two floors and features the biggest grappling mat in the southern region of Brazil. As expected, the facility is decked out with anything and everything a fighter training for a bout would need, including both a ring and caged fence.
Located in one of the nicest areas of Curitiba, the academy will also serve as the headquarters for the Chute Boxe fight team — Silva, Mauricio Rua (Pictures) and other Chute Boxe fighters will make their home there.
During the facility’s first class, more than 250 students filled the mat. A crowd of around 600 attended the inauguration, taking in a lesson centering on Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai, commanded by Cristiano Marcelo and Rafael Cordeiro (Pictures), respectively.
Family, friends and fans on hand shot video and took photos with Chute Boxe stars. At the end of the class an exhibition of MMA, mediated by Rudimar Fedrigo to show the new Octagon, delivered another excellent Chute Boxe brawl.
"If God wants to, this academy will shine a lot as Chute Boxe always has shone,” Rafael Cordeiro (Pictures) to Sherdog.com. “The older fighters will improve much more and the new ones will discover what it is MMA in this new structure. That is a first class structure. I expect that the people will like it and come to train with us.”
