Morgen (12 augustus) is Koningin Sirikit van Thailand jarig en traditiegetrouw wordt er dan een Muay Thai gala georganiseerd naast het Grand Palace in Bangkok (Sanam Luang). Uiteraard wordt dit een toernooi voor vrouwen. Weet niet de precieze line-up, maar volgens dit verhaaltje schijnt het ooit op Eurosport te worden uitgezonden. Dat zou mooi zijn :D

The World Muaythai Council and Thailand’s Super Promoter Songchai Ratanasuban will stage the biggest female Muaythai tournament Thailand and the world have seen.

12th August is a national holiday in Thailand as the whole Kingdom celebrates Her Majesty the Queen’s Birthday. In her honour this special event will be staged at Sanam Luang, outside the beautiful Wat Phra Kaew (King’s Palace). Over 100,000 spectators are expected for this live telecast event, which will also be telecast on UBC, Fox Sports and Eurosport.

The main fights will see some of the best fighters from around the world, opening with YingThip Kiaeat Ro For To taking on Joey Lee, the Asian Champion from Hong Kong, while fight two will see the current IFMA World Champion Sylvie Charbonneau of Canada taking on Saray Medina of Spain. Fight three will be PloyMuangChan Sit Petchdam of Thailand vs Australian Champion Wendy Miranda for a WMC Intercontinental Title. Daprasuk Sakchaichot, the Thai Muaythai legend, will fight Finland’s Milja Heino for the much-coveted WMC World Title, and this bout will be followed by Liza Ostman of Sweden, the current IFMA World Champion, taking on Tennille May from Australia.
