http://mmajunkie.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/070613radev.jpgUFC rookie Jordan Radev (11-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) will likely replace Marvin Eastman and fight newcomer Demian Maia (5-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) next month at UFC 77.
MMAjunkie.com (http://www.mmajunkie.com/) (UFC news, MMA news, UFC rumors, UFC gossip, fighter interviews and event previews and recaps - MMAjunkie.com (formerly UFCjunkie.com) (http://www.mmajunkie.com)) learned of the replacement from a source close to the fighter, but Ken Pavia, Radev’s agent, said he couldn’t comment on the report or confirm that a deal was close to being signed.
UFC 77 takes place Oct. 20 at U.S. Bank Arena in downtown Cincinnati and features a main event between UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and former champ Rich Franklin.
Earlier this week, Eastman told MMAjunkie.com (http://mmajunkie.com/2007/09/18/eye-surgery-forces-marvin-eastman-out-of-ufc-77-mmajunkiecom-exclusive/) that he had undergone eye surgery after suffering a tear in his retina, but he hopes to return to the Octagon in November or December.
In the mean time, Radev will step in. The Bulgarian made his Octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 10 and was tagged by hard-hitting Drew McFedries in the night’s first televised fight. The 25-second knockout included a KO punch and a few follow-up punches while Radev lay unconscious on the canvas.
Radev was slow to get up, and despite leaving the Octagon under his own power, he was eventually strapped to a stretcher and taken to a nearby hospital. He received an indefinite medical suspension after the fight but doctors have has since cleared him to compete.
