Xande Super Challenge champ


The 15,000-dollar check of Super Challenge Grappling ended up in the hands of the favorite athlete. Alexandre Ribeiro arrived in Sao Paulo in peace and said that he wanted to leave the city with his backpack loaded.


Four fights later, the big check was his, as was a Japanese traditional katana sword, which he got from the hands of Rickson Gracie.
For all that, Xande went home in the night of December 8th very happy.
Xande's trajectory began with the rematch against David Avellan, who had defeated him in the last ADCC.

The 8-0 score healed the sore.
After that, it was time to face Cristiano Titi. The match was harder than the first one and ended with a 3-0 score for Xande.
The best fight of the night happened in the semifinal: Andre Galvao, who had the biggest set of fans, made Xande's life tough. The first round finished with Ribeiro in the lead by 1-0. In the second, Galvao reversed the score with a leg lock but Xande took the lead again with a choke attempt. With a few seconds to go, Galvao tied the bout again with a takedown. Score even, the judges gave the victory to Xande.
The final match was against Luiz Big Mac. It was a tough but slow 15-minute fight. Xande was more aggressive and, after an overtime, was granted the victory again by the judges.


Besides the adrenaline, the evening at the Club Athletico Paulistano had also a lot of controversy. The rules created to make fights more active (3 points for dangerous submission attempts, 2 points for mounts and taking the back, 1 point for sweeps, passing the guard and takedowns with three seconds stabilizations), ended up creating a lot of confusion among the crowd, athletes and more importantly, referees.






Rickson Gracie, technical director of the event, stood by the novelties: "We only need athletes to adapt better to the rules and referees to punish any kind of stalling with much more vigor, but I consider that the rules worked," said the Jiu-Jitsu Master.
The athletes main complaint concerned the lack of criteria by referees in the scoring of the three points for submission attempts.
"Any subjective rule doesn´t work," said Fabio Gurgel, the Alliance school leader present at the event.
The rivalry between Alliance and Brasa also created fuzz in the gymnasium. After his defeat to Tarsis Humphreys in the third place decision match, Andre Galvao did not stay in the mat for the official announcement of the result.

Het was weer een vette seminar met Braulio. De sfeer zat er al lekker in op het moment dat Braulio de les begon. Na de nodige vaseline en brokeback mountain grappen konden we serieus beginnen.

Weer een hoop opgestoken van deze wereldkampioen die niet alleen aandacht heeft voor de techniek maar ook voor de mindset van het spelletje.

Haha idd, Wiggert, die inmiddels de zwarte band in traditioneel jiu jitsu heeft behaald, heeft de officiele ceremonie op braziliaanse wijze doorstaan.
