What organisation uses the better weightclasses?
Which weightclasses would you use for a grappling tournament? And why?

ADCC:
- 65,9 kg
- 76,9 kg
- 87,9 kg
- 98,9 kg
+ 99 kg

or

FILA:
- 62 kg
- 70 kg
- 80 kg
- 92 kg
- 125 kg

None of either
-62
-67
-72
-77
-85
-92
-100
+100
that should be it

I agree, but when you organize a grappling tournament in 8 or more weightclasses you need like 4-8 mats...

And because we will only have 2-3 mats at our tournament we want to handle it with 5 weightclasses (in 2 skill levels). But we are not shure which weightclasses that should be...

So when you got to chose from the ADCC and FILA weightclasses - which one you would chose?

??
the mats it is about competitors and not weight classes
You can handle 56 games on 1 mat on a n 8 hour time schedule
if you go on 5 mintes fight time.

so the weight catagories has nothing to do with that

I agree with Remco. In both ADCC and FILA I think there is a too large gap between the light divisions. I think the gaps between the weightclasses should be less than 10% of the total weight.

And also, why isn't it possible to organize more weightclasses on one mat? Or otherwise work with different time schedules, so every competitor won't have to be waiting in a boring hall all day to fight.

Where will you hold the tournament ???

We will hold it in Essen/Germany. It will be a Submission Grappling Tournament with a double elimination system or double ko system.

It will be the first tournament i/we will organize... ;)

It would be very nice if you could take a look at our rules and would say what you like and what you think what could better... :)

But the Website is still in the making so please don't judge the mistakes, still everythink can change: fightclub-essen.tk (http://www.fightclub-essen.tk) (the rules are in German, i hope you can understand it..., otherwise just say what you don't understand)

I agree that it doesnt matter what weights you use time-wise, but what you dont want is to have too few competitors in a weight for a decent competition. That I think is the only (real) risk of chosing too much weight classes, so it just depends on how many competitors you have.

Another option for a weightclass division, might be the one judo uses. It uses the 10% rule Hunter mentioned:

Under 60 kg
60~66 kg
66~73 kg
73~81 kg
81~90 kg
90~100 kg
Over 100 kg
