UFC 83: Houston Alexander vs. James Irvin

Light heavyweights Houston Alexander (8-2) and James Irvin (13-4) could possibly hook ‘em up at UFC 83 on March 8 in London, England.

Alexander — one of the breakout stars for the promotion in 2007 — was temporarily derailed in his last performance, getting pounded out via first round technical knockout at UFC 78: “Validation” in a fight with Thiago Silva. It was the first loss the single father of six suffered inside the Octagon — he has previously made short work of Keith Jardine and Alessio Sakara.
Irvin, on the other hand, can’t seem to enter a fight of late without it ending in controversy. He scored a win at UFC 79: “Nemesis” in December 2007, but that was because his opponent, UFC newcomer Luis Cane, was disqualified for an illegal knee to the face on the ground. Prior to that bout, he twisted his knee in a fight with Silva at UFC 71, forcing the “Sandman” to call it an early night.

UFC 84: Karo Parisyan vs. Thiago Alves

Karo Parisyan (18-4) is penciled in to meet Thiago Alves (13-3) in a welterweight tilt at UFC 84 in Montreal, Canada.
Speculation about the 170-pound clash has been swirling for the past week.
Parisyan is on a three-fight win streak and has won 11 of his 13 career fights inside the Octagon. “The Heat” most recently outlasted Ryo Chonan at UFC 78: “Validation” in November 2007 to earn a unanimous decision. After the bout he revealed that he broke his hand during the action.
The Armenian-born Judoka is considered a top contender in the division and in line for a shot at the division title. In addition, he claimed that he preferred to take an easier fight than going up against a another division top dog such as Jon Fitch to keep him active and ensure that his does not miss another crack at the crown like he did back in 2005.
However, the American Top Team-trained Alves is no slouch.
“The Pitbull” is on a four-fight win streak himself. He hasn’t lost a contest since meeting up with Fitch back in mid 2006. Alves most recently stopped Chris Lytle at UFC 78 via technical knockout (cuts) in the “Fight of the Night.”
