Today Saint Petersburg has experienced the first day of Russian Combat Sambo Championship.
Red Devil Sports Club was represented by 4 fighters participating in two weights
In the category under 90kg Red Devil's Viktor Nemkov started off very confident and dominated pretty well against Aleksei Veselozorov earning 4 points for a textbook throw. Unofrtunately right after that throw he lost the balance leaving his hand open for a hold which an experienced and skilled fighter as Aleksei capitalized on instantly performing a submission and securing himself a vitory.
Nevertheless, Viktor Nemkov won the third place by KO due to a knee strike.
Nemkov's loss was avenged later in the semifinals by another Red Devil's own. Mikhail Zayats who won previously in two bouts both by quick stoppages met Veselozorov. Semifinal was tough as hell. But devil felt better in that environment as his confidence was growing with every minute and earned the victory due to a referee stoppage. In the finals of the championship Mikhail won the gold by defeating Vyacheslav Vasilevskiy from Krasnoyarsk via Judges' Decision.
100kg+ was represented by none other than RD's Fedor Emelianeko and Alexander Kosarev. Kosarev who is fighting out of Belgorod debuted in the championship of such a high caliber for the first time. However he showed that he can fare well amongst older and more experienced fighters. Having won in the first bout via KO Kosachev met Stanislav Shushko later on. Actually Alexander was winning pretty convincingly (5-0) in the first part of the bout but then some fluke came into play and on the edge of attack Alexander got leg-bumped and fell on his back. Referee instantly gave the victory to Shushko. In the struggle for the bronze Kosarev's opponent didn;t show up due to an injury thus giving the third place to Alexander Kosarev.
As expected, Fedor Emelianenko won pretty easily in all of the three battles. Worth mentioning! Hats off to the Russian sambo combatants as this time not a single opponent in the main brackets refused to face Fedor while it occured a couple time during the European and World Combat Sambo Championships a while ago.
In the first bout Fedor rushed with a flurry of strikes taking down the opponent and won via submission in 35 seconds. The second one lasted mere 10 seconds as Fedor broke the adversary's nose.
The final that saw Fedor facing off against Stanislav Shushko was not that rapid though. Stanislav tried to keep Fedor on a distance utilizing his height and reach advantage. However Fedor broke the distance thanks to a series of punches and secured clinch. Then he threw Stanislav down and kept him there long enough to earn some points. After fighters got back on the feet situation repeated - series of punches and a throw. The only difference there was that Fedor finished his aggressive attack with a submission. Bout duration: 1:10 min.
The fans surrounded Fedor every time in between the bouts. He was freindly as always giving everybody the opportunity to receive an autograph or make a photo.
In the weightclass under 74kg it was a highly experienced Vener Galiev who reigned supreme. Vener is very famous in Russia and outside its boundaries. He seemed to excel all the opponents in every single aspect of the game finishing every fight and sparing judges minds.
During the solemn ceremony Vladimir Voronov who trains Red Devil's sportsmen was given the rank of the "Honored Russian trainer". Our genuine congratulations on this, indeed, well-deserved award.
These were the results of the first day of the sambo Grand Prix.
Photos, video's and the results in the other weightclasses will be posted later.
