UFC and PRIDE veteran Phil Baroni has officially signed to Elite XC.
Baroni (10-8) is coming off a loss to Frank Shamrock which headlined a co-promotion between Strikeforce and Elite XC. His next fight will take place on the company's March 15 card when he faces Hawaii's Kala Kohole Hose.
Baroni burst onto the MMA scene impressively in 2000 when he TKO'd his opponent in only thirty-five seconds. His second professional MMA bout was a victory over Curtis Stout in his UFC debut, which he followed up with another big TKO win in only 1:05.
In his next UFC bout he lost to highly regarded Matt Lindland in a close decision, but rebounded with first round TKO's over Amar Suloev and Dave Menne. His UFC career ended after losing his next four fights - a rematch with Lindland, two in a row to Evan Tanner, and finally one to Pete Sell.
Baroni won his next fight then entered the Japanese organization, PRIDE. In his PRIDE debut he defeated Japanese superstar Ikuhisa Minowa by TKO, then Japan's Ryo Chonan by knockout.
Since then Baroni has traded wins and losses, losing a rematch with Minowa, defeating Yuki Kondo, losing to PRIDE's 2006 Welterweight Grand Prix champion Kazuo Misaki, defeating Yosuke Nishijima, and finally losing to Shamrock.
