Just a few days before his first bout in Dream Middleweight Grand Prix Gegard tells about the importance of the experience, future plans and preparation for the upcoming fight against Kang.
Michael Mazur: Since the last time we spoke you got another couple of fights under your belt. In February you fought at Canadian HCF where you earned a TKO victory over highly experienced Evangelista Santos from Chute Boxe. How did the fight go?
Gegard: The fight went the way I wanted. I kept the distance in the standup and landed some good kicks then took the fight to the ground and controlled my opponent on the ground. That was my game plan so it went as I wanted.
Michael: The most recent victory you got was at M-1 Challenge inaugural event where you represented the Netherlands as the light heavyweight. It was a long day for you but you didn’t disappoint your fans by knocking your German opponent out. What was your impression of that fight?
Gegard: He was a good opponent I had read somewhere he was a black belt in judo so I didn’t want to clinch with him but we did get in the clinch. There I let him eat a knee so he was out of balance so I was able to take him down and finish him on the ground. Overall it was a good fight for me because I am more experienced now.
