Dream 4 Alistair Overeem June 15th 2008 Tokyo Japan
This was Alistair’s 4th fight as a heavyweight and as he won his last world heavyweight title match at Strikeforce in the USA in round 2 by KO this match in Japan was a good test to see how Alistair evolved as a heavyweight fighter.
In Alistair’s own words he now does not have to watch his food anymore, with a very low body fat percentage, Alistair 194cm was eating his own muscles to stay at 93 kg, light heavy weight. This resulted in conditioning problems later in his fights as a light heavy weight. Winning 3 of his last heavyweight fights by KO, Alistair looks at a great career as a heavyweight fighter.
Trainer Cor Hemmers was rocked out of his room by a 7.0 earthquake (happened about 450 km out of Tokyo) he told me that he read there were some construction going on at the hotel. But when he had problems standing on his feet in the room of the hotel, Cor rushed outside to see if the building was about to collapse. He told me the story at breakfast, I told him that I had the same experience in Japan (funny enough also when Alistair fought in Japan) and that it was a very scary experience. The result of witnessing an earthquake like that has great impact on your sleep I told Cor. And I was right. Cor did not sleep much anymore in the days after the earthquake, every time you try to sleep and move yourself in your bed you think an earthquake is taking place.

The big Korean fighter who knocked out Yamamoto and weighs about 130 kilo and is about 2 meters high started with a lot of confidence this fight with Alistair.
Overeem had never knocked out an opponent before with his hands. But Alistair has been working on his stand up with master trainer Cor Hemmers and has been sparring with Gokhan Saki, Errol, Zimmerman, Nieky Holzen, Chalid Arrab, Aziz, Dennis Stojnic and other Golden Glory fighters. It came as no surprise to the corner from Alistair that a huge left hook (same were Gokhan Saki knocked out Paul Slowinsky) followed by a huge right hook landed on the chin of the big Korean, Alistair followed with a right uppercut and knee to the body, but the Korean was already out.

Alistair then took the microphone and screamed at the audience in Japan that he wants to fight Mirko Crop for his next fight in Dreams and that he will be the next heavyweight Champion. Quick and strong performance from the demolition man from Holland, who seems to have found his place in the heavyweight division!
