Golden Glory fighter Alistair Overeem achieves Blitz Krieg victory over Mark Hunt
Dream 5 Osaka 21 July 2008
Alistair Overeem fought in Dream 4 (June 15th) against a Korean opponent winning the fight in 36 seconds by way of knock out.
Alistair had been training for 7 months straight as his Amsterdam fight with fellow Dutch fighter Gilbert Yvel was cancelled. Therefore Alistair fought later in Dreams 4 against the Korean fighter. Now he deserved a holiday and so he went with Cor and Bas to Thailand.
The holiday was “brutally” interrupted when a phone call from Japan ended Alistair’s well deserved holiday.
This is Dream people speaking, we have a problem Le Banner is injured and we are looking for an opponent, would you be so kind?
Both, Cor Hemmers and myself thought it was a good idea! Rest is also a good after so many months of intensive training. However we all agreed to accepted the fight.
We were all on a white sand beach in Thailand enjoying a much needed holiday and next thing you know we are in Osaka.
The game plan was not really difficult, do not brawl with Hunt, no expert needed for that advice!
During the press conference Alistair studied some Japanese words and told everybody at the press conference “while standing and pointing his finger at Hunt”, that he was going to get him in Japanese. This was welcomed with a lot of OOOOhhss and Aaaahs from the Japanese media.
When Alistair entered the Osaka Arena, we could hear that his fan base was growing as he received one of the biggest standing ovations from the Japanese audience that night.
When the fight started Alistair evaded some punches from Hunt, he wanted to clinch and deliver a knee strike but Hunt counter punched and then Alistair lost balance. Hunt jumped like a predator in the guard of Alistair and then gets the side control. The commentators and everybody there, thinks this is not good. Alistair had a different view fighting from his back he got the arm of Hunt in a figure four. Then we could read much pain on the face of mark Hunt and while trying to defend this crazy submission from Alistair, Alistair puts his legs around Hunt and even while Hunt is trying to roll out of this painful situation, it is to late, Hunt had to tap out in less then 40 seconds into the first round!
Alistair grabbed the microphone and challenged Mirko Cro Cop again. This challenge has meaning for Alistair as originally Cro Cop would have been the replacement fighter for the Amsterdam show were Yvel could not fight against Alistair. At least that was the rumour, so its not a personal vendetta in the eyes of Alistair he just really wants to prove himself
Alistair found his new home at the heavyweight division, being 28 years old with a lot of experience he is a force to be reckoned with Demolition time!
