K-1 Korea final 16 eliminations 27 September 2008-09-28

K-1 is undergoing a facelift with many new young exciting fighters qualifing for the last 16. the questions was: could they eliminate fighters like Ray Sefo, Glaube Feitosa among veteran K-1 fighters.

Two of those young fighters were Gokhan Saki and Errol Zimmerman and they trained very hard for this tournament. Errol Zimmerman qualified by winning the Amsterdam GP tournament 2008 and Saki just won the K-1 USA GP in Hawai with three ko’s in one night.

Chalid Arrab vs Ruslan Karaev

The first fight of the night is Chalid Arrab who was taking on Rusland Karaev who is managed by Golden Glory but prepared in Russia for this fight.
Both fighters start the fight throwing heavy punches and it is entertaining from the start. At the end of the 1 st round Chalid throws a nice combination and a hard left hook hits Karaev in the chin and he has to go down and takes an 8 count, but survives the round.
The second round we can see Karaev dropping Chalid and now Chalid receives an 8 count. The audience goes wild and just when the ref wants to break the fight a big uppercut finished Chalid.
Great fight by the two warriors, winner by KO Ruslan Karaev and he is advancing to the last 8.

Gokhan Sak vs Ray Sefo

The young fighter from Turkey left a great impression at the K-1 USA in Hawaii by winning all his three fights by KO!
His opponent Ray Sefo was a great inspiration for Saki and one of his favourite fighters/.
Saiki had problems sleeping and ended up not sleeping at all, the night before the fight. This resulted in Saki fighting defence but still scoring with some vicious low kicks and some left hooks. The fight needs an extra round, but Saki gets it together and does the job. Winner by decision Gokhan Saki and he is advancing to the last 8.

Errol the “Bone Crusher” Zimmerman vs Glaube Feitosa.

Errol is the youngest fighter at the final eliminations! In his preparation he shows confidence, strengthe and powere beyond his years. His nickname “the bone crusher” came about because of a song he heard called the bone crusher, about a person who has no fear and as Errol in his previous fights broke the arms of three different opponents and shows absolutely no fear or hesitation, the name suites him well. With a skeleton suite and mask his entrance was electric.
When the fights start, it is clear that Errol does not really care about the reputation of Feitosa and his LHK, with great aggression Errol tries to KO Feitosa imediately with a flurry of very heavy straight right punches which sounds like the impacts of a bomb explosion on the head of Feitosa.
At the end of round one Errol lands a combination and puts the Brazilian to the canvas as he receives an eight count. On the end of this round Errol finishes in style with a double jumped knee, end of round one.
Round two Errol continues his rage with jumping kicks and punches and again terrible hard right straight punches and hooks. Feitosa is just trying to survive and it is amazing that Errol can continue these great combinations with such speed and power without gassing. At the end of round two Errol lands three vicious left hard hooks to the head of Feitosa, who receives his second 8 count of the night.
In round three Errol even lands a hard powerful right high kick himself and gives the Brazilian a taste of his own medicine. In the last 20 seconds Errol gets some body shots from Feitosa and eats a right hand but he is not in really any troubles. Like Feitosa he can take a punch! Great performance by the youngest fighter in K-1, the young bone crusher will face other youngsters in the last 8 - Ewerton Teixeira another Brazilian!

Winner Errol “the bone crusher” Zimmerman and he is advancing to the last 8.

The main event is reigning 3 x K-1 GP Champion Semmy Schilt vs Peter Aerts

Semmy has been invincible and has the longest winning streak in K-1 history. Many people prayed that Peter Aerts would beat him in a single match.
The fight starts with Peter Aerts immediately attacking Semmy with some vicious punches. Semmy counters with some hard low kicks and punches and the first round is pretty even.
The second round we can see the same pattern where Peter Aerts comes forward with a few punches and then the grabs Semmy’s body/clenching. Semmy is clearly irritated by this and even receives a warning for holding in round three, when it was actually Aerts who was doing the majority of the clenching who, after each attack was holding Semmy . More irritated are the slow motions between rounds they only showed highlights of Aerts and show nothing of the three time K-1 champion Semmy Schilt?
Many thought there would be an extra round but the Korean judges awarded Peter Aerts the winner.
Semmy said later in an interview he admitted he should have done more, but was not really happy with the whole clinching situation. Semmy said he hoped like Peter Aerts had in the past, that he would get the first reserve spot in the finals (maybe a rematch against Hong Man Choi) and that he would get a chance to defend his title.
Semmy who will get a lot motivation after this dissapointing outcome has said he will come back stronger then ever!

One day later at 5 in the morning trainer Cor Hemmers took a plane from Korea to Japan to arrive 40 minutes before the fight of Siyar Bahadurzada and Paul Cahoon from Golden Glory who both fought in the 83kg tournament at Sangoku World Road to Victory in Tokyo Japan.
Siyar evades a take down from Cyborg who lands on his hands and breaks his arm, Siyar wins the fight in 20 sec and advances to the next round.
Paul Cahoon made his debut at this weight class and put up a great fight against the Japanese star Nakamura, for three rounds there is also a lot of standing action and if this fight would have taken place in Europe Paul would have won for sure.
A great night after a crazy trip which ends Oktober 1st when Nieky Holzken will fight Virgil at the k-1 Max in Tokyo Japan.
