DEEP 38 ‘Impact’ took place earlier today at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

The main event brought in the crowds but ended disappointingly when Katsuyori Shibata battled Yasuhito Namekawa to a draw.

Shibata is well known in Japan for his professional wrestling despite having a mixed martial arts record that borders on abysmal (2-5 with five straight losses).

In fairness he has battled some tough competition like Yoshihiro Akiyama, Ralek Gracie & Kazushi Sakuraba, but at this stage of his MMA career he really needs to pull in a “W”.

Riki Fukuda (who some fans may recognize from his previous stint with EliteXC) had a fast paced brawl with Dutch export Jason Jones. Even though it went to a decision it was one of the more exciting fights of the night with Fukuoda coming out on top.

This fight was not without controversy however when Jones did not hear the bell at the end of the second round and continued to pummel Fukuda with some vicious ground and pound.

Both corners stormed the ring and one fan even threw a cup of ice into the ring which ironically seemed to cool things down. All was quickly forgotten and Jones & Fukuoda payed respect to each other after the fight.

It was rumored that Jones was in an altercation with a fan after the event, but no further details have been provided.

Eiji Ishikawa was successful at derailing the freight train which is Simeon Thoresen. The Norwegian sensation had won all nine of his mixed martial arts fights before Isikawa bested him with a majority decision win.

No doubt Thoresen will be back. He has a incredible amount of potential but Ishikawa proved to be the better man on this night.

In the only women’s bout of the night, Sakoto Shinashi looked impressive when she submitted Yukiko Seki just 90 seconds into the first round.
