“I’ve got news, I want to fight at ADCC 2009. My idea is to talk to the organizers and see if there’s a possibility of my being invited, for all the titles I’ve won at the event. I don’t really want to go through the trials in Rio, especially since it’s already too close to the event to be able to train properly. That’s why my idea is to go straight into the main tournament, to go right up against all the toughest from around the world. I even called up Paulo [Filho] to see if he’d get motivated about participating, but he says he doesn’t want to. So I came up with the organizers’ Email, and I’ll be contacting them to see about an invite. I’m excited.”
-Former PRIDE light heavyweight standout and ADCC champion Ricardo Arona aims for a return to the grappling tournament that made him famous in 2000 and 2001 by leapfrogging his way past the trials right into the main tournament. Nothing is certain at this point, but the Brazilian sounds as if he’s ready to get back to competition. He has not seen action since a knockout loss to Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou at Pride 34: “Kamikaza” in April 2007. It was his third loss in four fights — a tough stretch for a very talented fighter.

tja... van de ene kant heb ik zoiets van "geef hem maar een wildcard"...
Maar van de andere kant... Arona zit niet in zijn prime... is hij die wildcard wel waard?

Hij heeft overigens ooit eens die ADCC gewonnen als ik me niet vergis.

Er is nog nooit een punt gescoord tegen Arona in ADCC. Ik denk dat hij die wildcard wel verdiend.

With ADCC postponed until September Ricardo Arona told tatame.com (http://www.tatame.com/2009/03/26/Ricardo-Arona) that he plans on coming back to MMA by September.

“I received proposals, as I said, of Affliction, Dream and other events, but I just know that the ADCC was moved to September and this moved a lot with my plans, it wasn’t what I wanted, no way. I don’t want to wait until September to fight, I will renegotiate before that to see if I fight the best proposal”, Arona said.

The other events that have contacted Arona don’t include the UFC.
” Ultimate didn’t contacted me. I had contacts from Affliction, Dream, but had no position of the Ultimate.
Arona also told tatame.com how good his reunion went with former teammates Vitor Belfort and Antonio “Minotouro” Nogueria.

“I was emotional and everything. There was a long time that I didn’t see Vitor, we three have a story… It was emotional, much better than I imagined”.

The reunion went so good, Arona plans on training with Team Minotauro.

“I already told them that I’ll go there. I returned to the trainings, hurt a finger, those little things that happen in training, but one or two weeks ago I already recovered my movements and I’ll go there to be near my friends, that’s what a want”.

Zijn takedown waren zó ongelofelijk hard en vet :)

Ik hoop dat Filho, Shogun en Arona weer in topvorm zullen zijn!:)

Die tegen Sakuraba vergeten misschien?

Arona is niet altijd de meest spectaculaire, maar de saaiste vechter is hij echt niet(Die titel gaat wat mij betreft naar Monson).

Hehe, inderdaad Yomark, de partij tegen Saku was gewoon een beestachtige slachtpartij...

En het "eye-gouging" maakte Saku's gezicht er niet mooier op :)

ik vind arona zeker geen saaie vechter.. hij heeft inderdaad dipjes maar ik vind het zeker vermakelijk om naar te kijken.. vooral zijn takedowntechniek..

In ADCC kan hij hele hoge ogen gooien, 't is echt een hele goede grappeler.

In MMA vind ik hem soms best saai. Heeft ook altijd zijn excuses klaarliggen als hij verloren heeft. Als het aan mij ligt gaat hij naar Dream, zodat Alistair zijn verliespartij kan wegpoetsen. Moet hij natuurlijk wel op HW willen vechten.
