Things just got worse for MMA’s favorite anarchist, Jeff Monson. He was arrested this weekend in North Carolina on a charge unrelated to his malicious mischief trouble (http://www.cagepotato.com/jeff-monson-faces-10-years-first-degree-malicious-mischief) in Olympia, Washington. Now he’s in jail on suspicion of “assault on a female and injury to real property.” Girl troubles gone terribly wrong, in other words. How disappointing.

The Olympian (http://www.theolympian.com/672/story/731879.html) got the story from 30-year-old Stephanie Trapani, of Advance, North Carolina, who apparently had a thing going with “The Snowman”:

Trapani says she had a romantic relationship with Monson, but they got in an argument after found out he had romantic relationships with other women. She also alleges "he has two wives." She said she found out information about his other girlfriends on his cell phone and she then threw the cell phone out the window of her car while she was driving to pick him up at the gym. When he found out his cell phone was gone when they returned to Trapani's home, he got angry. "He went ballistic," she said.

At Trapani's home, Monson packed up his belongings, Trapani said. But when she told him she had thrown his cell phone out the window of her car, he grabbed her laptop and started "hitting the columns" of her home. She said Monson was enraged, and put a hole in the wall and flipped over a grandfather clock."He's being charged with domestic violence and damage to property because he destroyed my house," Trapani said. "He started just bashing holes in the walls and the columns." Damn, civil disobedience you can at least make a case for, but I'm pretty sure Henry David Thoreau (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_David_Thoreau) never trashed some chick's house. Sounds like Monson is not to be trifled with when it comes to both politics and matters of the heart.

If only she hadn’t thrown his cell phone out the window they could have proceeded towards an orderly break-up and never had to see each other again, except for the obligatory meeting two weeks later to exchange borrowed belongings and have sex one last time in a coffee shop bathroom.

But seriously, Monson. Two wives, bro? Sounds like just having one girlfriend is hard enough on you. Hope he has a good lawyer and some frequent flier mileage, because he now has court cases and hoes in different area codes.

Monson has a Bachelor's degree (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bachelor%27s_degree) and a Master's Degree (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master%27s_Degree) in psychology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychology). For a few years he worked as a mental health professional, both in a crisis evaluation role as well as a child/family counselor.[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)] After initial success in Abu Dhabi and other MMA arenas, he left the mental health profession to devote himself full time to his MMA endeavors.

Former UFC heavyweight contender and professed anarchist Jeff Monson (http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Jeff-Monson-262) remains incarcerated at the Davies County Detention Center on Wednesday, after he was arrested Monday night on domestic violence and property damage charges in Advance, N.C.

Authorities were called to the residence of Stephanie Trapani, 30, and detained Monson for “assault to a female” and “damage to property” following an alleged domestic dispute, said Capt. Hartman of Davies County Sheriff’s Office. Trapani and Monson had a “dating relationship,” said Hartman.

Trapani was also arrested for damage to Monson’s property. The Olympian reported Monday that Trapani had discarded Monson’s cell phone after finding out he was involved in romantic relationships with other women.

On the fighter’s voicemail message, a female’s voice notified callers that Monson had “lost” his cell phone and to leave detailed contact information.

Capt. Hartman said Trapani posted bail on Monday and has obtained a 50B contact order, denying the fighter “any contact whatsoever” with Trapani.

“He destroyed my house," Trapani told The Olympian on Monday. "He started just bashing holes in the walls and the columns."

Trapani said Monson also grabbed her during the argument.

Monson’s bail has been set at $22,000, though Davies County Sheriff’s Office said a magistrate or judge could decide to hold the fighter further for extradition after they were contacted by Washington officials on a separate charge.

A warrant for Monson’s arrest remains active in Washington, where the fighter has been has been charged with first-degree malicious mischief for spray-painting the peace sign, the anarchy symbol, and the phrases “No war” and “No poverty” on the state’s capital building on Nov. 26.

ESPN The Magazine documented Monson’s protest while trailing the politically minded fighter for a feature that ran in its Dec. 29 issue. Monson was documented defacing the monument in one of the article’s accompanying photographs, which led Washington officials to the suspect. The act carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Monson (27-8) told Sherdog.com last Thursday that he hadn’t regretted his protest and that he’d intended to turn himself in to authorities before his separate arrest Monday. The decorated world grappling champion said he didn’t believe his pending arrest for vandalism would taint his career and that he’d planned to fight next for World Victory Road’s “Sengoku” promotion this March in Japan.

Jeff Monson (http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Jeff-Monson-262) pleaded not guilty to a felony vandalism charge in a Washington court on Tuesday, but he was ordered to surrender his passport despite having two upcoming fights scheduled for outside of the United States.

The former UFC heavyweight contender and professed anarchist told the court he had two fights lined up, one against Ibragim Magomedov (http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Ibragim-Magomedov-2951) on Feb. 28 in Russia and another against Roger Gracie (http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Roger-Gracie-19854) set for March in Japan.

Monson said the prosecution’s claim that he was a flight risk because of his political beliefs was ignorant.

“He doesn’t know what anarchy is,” said Monson. “Anarchy is about everyone having equal rights, everyone having the same ability to be involved in the economic system. It’s about getting along with everyone and loving your fellow man. It was nothing to do with chaos and destruction.”

The grappling world champion told Sherdog.com on Tuesday that his attorney has already been granted a hearing on Thursday. As a first-time offender with a family in the area, Monson expects his passport to be returned at that time.

Monson, 37, had been charged with first-degree malicious mischief, a felony carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

A native of Olympia, Monson said he’d spray-painted the peace sign, the anarchy symbol, and the phrases “No war” and “No poverty” on multiple columns of the state’s Capital building on Nov. 26.

An ESPN photographer and writer, who were profiling the outspoken political proponent, documented the act, which appeared in a snapshot accompanying the article in the Dec. 29 issue of “ESPN The Magazine.” The photo helped lead to Monson’s arrest, said Washington authorities.

“The maximum I can get for this charge is 90 days,” Monson said Tuesday. “That’s if we don’t negotiate, they don’t drop it down to a misdemeanor. With no priors, with no history, and time for good behavior, I’d be out in 60 [days].”

Monson has had his fair share of legal wranglings in the last few weeks.

On Dec. 19, Monson was arrested for “assault to a female” and “damage to property” following an alleged domestic dispute at the residence of 30-year-old Stephanie Trapani, whom Monson dated, in Advance, North Carolina.

Trapani said Monson “started just bashing holes in the walls and the columns,” in an interview she gave with The Olympian. Trapani said Monson also grabbed her during the argument, which began after Trapani read messages to and from other women on Monson’s cell phone.

“There was no physical contact made with her. Don’t believe everything you read on the Internet. I haven’t been in a fight since third grade, other than what my job entails,” Monson told Sherdog.com on Tuesday. “Some property on both sides was destroyed. She’s facing felony charges for identity theft, for fraudulent use of a credit card, for destroying my [old] passport, and larceny.”

Monson has been married for 16 years and has two children in Olympia.

“It was an unfortunate mistake to get involved with someone like that –- someone looking to make a name for themselves,” he said.

Monson spent five days in the Davies County Jail awaiting extradition to Washington for the separate vandalism charge. Every day, he said he recruited other inmates as drill partners while he tried to keep some semblance of a training schedule. Monson said he thought for the remainder of the time, though.

“Some things with my relationships –- with my wife and my loved ones –- have suffered because of my choices,” he said. “Having no one to talk to and no one to turn to and nowhere to run, you start to think about your life and some decisions you made. For the first time in years, I made a commitment to my wife Jen to be the husband and father I need to be. That’s the good thing that came out of this.”
