New cut-man rules for the UFC

The grease gate scandle has forced the UFC to change it’s rules regarding how a cut man can work a corner. According to MMAweekly (http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=8139&zoneid=2) the UFC is now instructing that cornermen associated with the fighters will no longer be allowed to handle the Vaseline used in between rounds to treat and prevent cuts.
The UFC will now provide one cut man for each corner for the fight. Only two people are allowed to enter the Octagon between rounds so if a cut man is necessary to apply Vaseline or work on a cut, one of the other cornermen working with the fighter must exit the cage to allow the cut man to work.
The cut men were allowed to enter during the breaks in between rounds.

Of nog erger, gevechten die sneller een referee stoppage krijgen door een cut? Dat zel wel niet toch.............:confused:

Ik heb volgens mij meer van die bloodfests van die Stevenson gezien.....was stevenson vs (volgens mij) yves Edwards ook niet zo'n bloedbad?

Hoezo? Er staat toch alleen maar dat de vechter's eigen trainers en/of begeleiders geen vaseline mogen gebruiken en dat alleen de cutmen dit mogen doen, indien nodig.

Inderdaad ... en dit zijn UFC-payed cutmen, dus wees maar zeker dat die er alles aan zullen doen dat het gevecht niet te snel of nodeloos moet stoppen door een slecht verzorgde cut.

die cutmen vind ik trouwens veel te snel wedstrijden staken, kijk naar chris lytle vs alves. dat viel echt niet te vergelijken met penn - stevenson. Is toch kut dit, nu heeft een cornerman nooit meer de mogelijkheid snel een cut weg te werken die goed bloed, zodat zijn vechter nog snel een ronde extra kan pakken.

In Nederland zijn de ringarts en de 'cutman' hetzelfde toch? Misschien dat daar de verwarring uit voorkomt?

Ik weet niet hoe het in de Pride aan toe ging maar zowel bij K1 Hero's als bij Dream mag nooit vaseline of enig andere substantie worden gebruikt voor en tijdens het gevecht.
Vechters worden bij betreden zowel de catwalk alswel bij het betreden van de ring daarop gecontroleerd en eventueel met alcohol 'gewassen'. Dit was in extreme mate het geval na de wedstrijd van Sakuraba vs Akiyama.
Jupz.. dat klopt. Na de partij van saku en akiyama ging het er wel heel erg streng aan toe. Maar akiyama was me ook ff een smeerlap... dat ging veel verder dan het hele GSP gebeuren. akiyama was zo glad als een aal.
Maar bij de iets oudere prides was die controle echt miniem. Veel vechters kleden zich pas uit in de ring. De ref checkte toen alleen maar de handschoentjes enzo.

The news broke at the UFC Fight Night 17 event last Saturday that a rule change had been made in regards to corner men applying Vaseline to their fighters in between rounds, and that only cut men assigned by the promotion would be allowed to do so going forward.
While the rule change for Florida was correct, UFC vice president of regulatory affairs Marc Ratner spoke to MMAWeekly.com on Tuesday to clarify a few misconceptions about the rule change.
"It's not the UFC, it's the commission that will decide exactly what can be done," Ratner said in an exclusive interview. "Some of that stuff will be brought up at the ABC meetings with all the commissions, but there has been no official UFC policy."
Ratner went onto say that each commission will have the final say in what is or is not allowed to happen during an event when it comes to rules for the corner men and cut men involved in the fight.
"We're going to leave it up to each commission, obviously. We're going to be very vigilant and we're going to let all the fighters know what we expect, which we've always done. So nothing really has changed," he said. "The Nevada commission, they'll do whatever disciplinary action or hearings they want, and we want a level playing field, it's as simple as that."
The upcoming UFC 95 event in London will come directly under the direction of Ratner himself, who serves as the lead in overseeing the regulations for the UFC in England, as the country currently has no official governing body over mixed martial arts.
"England, we'll talk to all the corner people and explain to them the rules and we'll make sure that it will not happen again," Ratner commented. "I'll be very vigilant there."
Ultimately, when asked if the decision lies in the hands of the athletic commissions in the sanctioned states in the U.S. as to how they deal with the corners and cut men, Ratner replied, "that's correct."
The UFC will hold their next event in the United States on March 7 in Columbus under the regulation and sanctioning of the state of Ohio. There is no word yet on what ruling they will use in regards to this situation.
