“I was sad after that loss and a lot of things were going through my head. But I woke up one day and said, ‘You know what? I’m still the lightweight champ. Let’s keep fighting.’ … That will probably be this summer, so that’s my focus now…. After I defend my belt and he defends his belt, I’d love to do it again. Mostly because of the controversy. I just want it to be clean — no questions, no controversy.”
UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn talks about his desire to keep fighting. There was talk before and after his most recent fight against welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre at UFC 94 on Jan. 31 that “The Prodigy — who made his Octagon debut back in 2001 — would hang up the gloves. Penn was outclassed by the Canadian for four rounds in a 170-pound contest. He still wants a rematch because of “the controversy” involved, but says he will focus on challenging fighters more his size at 155 pounds … for now. Penn will more than likely next take on number one division contender Kenny Florian sometime in summer.
