View Full Version : "Mask" tapout crew overleden
NEWPORT BEACH -- A Costa Mesa man has been arrested in connection with a violent Ferrari crash that killed one person and left another injured in Newport Beach.
A Porsche and a red Ferrari were traveling at a high rate of speed along southbound Jamboree Road near Camelback Street just before 1 a.m. Wednesday when the two luxury cars collided, police said.
The Ferrari lost control, hit a curb and crashed into a light pole, which toppled onto the car, crushing the front portion, said Newport Beach Police Lt. Steven Shulman.
The impact of the crash split the vehicle in two and sent debris flying onto the roadside.
Shulman said a Newport Beach Police Department officer was traveling in the opposite direction and witnessed the collision which caused the two vehicles to spin out of control.
The Porsche came to a stop at the scene for a few seconds and then sped away, Newport Beach Lt. Craig Fox said.
Jeffrey Kirby, 51, was taken into custody after officers spotted his Porsche on Bison Avenue just west of Jamboree Road moments later. He and a female passenger were reportedly walking away from the car at the time.
Kirby was being held on $1 million bail while facing gross vehicular manslaughter charges.
Newport Beach resident Lynn Marie Nabozny, 32, was arrested for public intoxication, Fox said. She was released and will not be formally charged, he added.
A man in the Ferrari was declared dead at the scene. His identity is not yet known.
A woman was ejected and was hospitalized in stable condition.
It was initially reported that the deceased man was driving the Ferrari, however, police at the scene said they had not yet made that determination.
Hours after the crash, the front portion of the luxury Italian sports car could be seen resting against a hillside several feet away with its lights still functioning.
The car appeared to be a Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, an all-aluminum V12 with a top speed of 205 miles per hour and a price tag of about $300,000.
It's not yet known how fast both drivers were traveling, however, police said it was well above the 50 mph posted speed limit.
Police would not say whether the two vehicles were racing each other at the time of the crash.
All southbound lanes of Jamboree Road were expected to be shut down in the area until at least noon, according to authorities.

Charles Lewis Jr. (his real name) reportedly wrapped his $300,000 Ferrari around a telephone pole in Orange County, Calif. He died at the scene, while a female passenger was taken to the hospital. Police believe the mixed martial arts entrepreneur was racing a guy in a Porsche; the other driver is being held on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, according to TMZ.
The three TapouT dudes – with their hardcore, crazy gear, wigs, and face paint – are known for their reality show, in which they travel the country in a bus, scouting and promoting fighters, and for their sponsorship of Spike TV’s UFC reality fight fest, “The Ultimate Fighter.”

Tragic news rocked the MMA world early this morning as a fatal car crash claimed the life of an MMA icon, Charles "Mask" Lewis.
Regardless of what you knew of or felt about the TapOut Crew, their passion for the sport of MMA remains, as always, unquestionable and undeiable.
Charles Lewis, whose look branded him as "Mask" was as committed to Mixed Martial Arts as any athlete in the sport.
Many new fans who came to MMA and were introduced to Charles and the Crew kind of accepted that they were a part of the fabric that made up the MMA culture already.
And, while that is the truth, Charles Lewis and TapOut dedicated love, blood, sweat and tears to it when it was not an 'in' thing to do, before MMA went as mainstream as it has gone thus far. Only those who truly willing to pour themselves into MMA would do so at that point in its history.
As a result, Charles 'Mask' Lewis and TapOut helped bolster the sport of MMA and usher in one of the biggest clothing booms associated with any sport in history.
The loss is being felt by more and more friends, family and fans, as the news which confirmed the deadly accident in the Newport Beach area of Southern California, which too Charles 'Mask' Lewis much too soon, gradually reaches more of us.

Volgens mij komt er nog een nieuw seizoen aan van hun reality show. Hun show is wat mij betreft interessanter dan TUF. Ze zoeken nieuw talent op en laten zien hoe ze zich voorbereiden op een partij.

Dodelijk ongeluk: Ferrari 360 gehalveerd

Stond gisteren voor een rood stoplicht te wachten, word links voorbij gevlogen door auto met minimaal 90 kmh (op 50 weg). Vervolgens mist die eerst op een haar na een auto van links en daarna door het uitwijken 2 voetgangers aan de andere kant.
Dit soort mensen verdient niks anders dan te sterven.....

Helaas overleden, maar andere kant het is een risico wat ie bewust genomen heeft.
Blijkbaar post er hier soms iemand onder mijn pseudoniem "BBC".Deze persoon bezit noch de spelvaardigheid noch het grammaticaal inzicht dat ikzelf meermaals heb gedemonstreerd (om over het humoristisch peil nog maar te zwijgen).Bij deze distantieer ik mij dan ook ten stelligste van deze onverlaat.(aanleiding is de post waarin gewag wordt gemaakt van een iq quotient, beschamend gewoonweg!)

De beste kerel heeft misschien veel betekend voor MMA, waarvoor dank, maar ik kan ook niet echt treuren voor iemand die zo aan zijn einde komt. De lantaarnpaal in kwestie had zo maar even een eenzame jogger of wandelaar kunnen zijn!
