Zojuist is bij mij het bericht binnengekomen dat Tyrone Spong op 26 juni een WMC Wereldtitel partij zal draaien tegen de regerende WMC en WBC Wereldkampioen Nathan "Carnage" Corbett op het Champions of Champions gala wat op 26 juni gehouden zal worden op Jamaica (Montego Bay)

Een partij waar de fans al geruime tijd op hebben gewachten! Spong zal terug naar zijn roots gaan om in een partij tot 93 Kg voor eens en altijd laten zien wie de King is.

Spong heeft vanaf de 77 kilogram de gehele corrurrentie in Europa verslagen (o.a. Mes, Emil Zoraj, Vincent Vielvoye, Rasmus Zoeylner, Aurelien Duarte, Kaoklai Kaennorsing, Sem Braan, Dimitri Shakuta & Ondrej "Spejbl" Hutnik) en is o.a. de huidge WFCA Wereldkampioen, terwijl Corbertt aan de andere kant van deze planeet onverslaanbaar was (o.a. Clifton Brown, Azem Maksutaj, Kaoklai Kaennorsing, Magomed Magomedov, Ashwin Balrak en Steve Mckinnon. Momenteel de WMC en WBC Wereldkampioen. Een echte klash van twee absolute giganten!!!

De rest van de line-up zal ik zodadelijk plaatsen!

Carnage Vs Spong

Two great fighters,
Two great career paths,
One big missed opportunity!

It is not only part of fight sports, but sports in general. Those great match ups that slip through the cracks and never get made. The ones that would clarify who is number one and who is the better of the two greats. In Muaythai there are two such fights. One is WMC champ Buakaw Por. Pramuk VS WBC champ Yodsenklai Fairtex. The other is WFCA Champ Tyrone Spong Vs WMC and WBC Champion Nathan Corbett.

Tyrone and Nathan have collectively whipped out there competition in their regions. Neither really have challenges and most often they stop their opposition as well as beat them. Tyrone cleaned out the 77kg division when it was the strongest in the world. He defeated Joerie Mes, Emil Zoraj, Vincent Vielvoye, Rasmus Zoeylner, Aurelien Duarte, Kaoklai Kaennorsing, Sem Braan, Dimitri Shakuta, and Ondrej Hutnik. Those men are tops in the world on his side of the planet. He stopped the majority of the group and his skill appeared only to be a shadow of what he could really do.

Nathan has also reigned supreme in his part of the world. Names like Clifton Brown twice, Azem Maksutaj and Kaoklai (who Tyrone also beat), Magomed Magomedov, Ashwin Balrak, and Steve Mckinnon. He stopped all of these fighters and remains the unchallenged king in his part of the world.

WMM breaks down what makes this truly an intriguing battle.

Style
Tyrone is the master counter striker. He is lightning fast and hurts most of his opponents while they are striking, He sees everything. His defence is top five in the world and he is so in your face offensively, that he makes up for his lack of great activity with precision power shots.

Carnage is actually more of a Dutch style fighter than Tyrone is. He uses his hands to set up swift low kicks. He has an aggressive attack that is in his opponents face from start to finish. The ex factor here is the elbows. Adapt as Tyrone is with handling them he rarely throws them. Carnage slices up everything moving. If it were aloud the ref would probably get it to.

Style to Carnage

Experience
Carnage has the names and has been fighting for three years longer than Tyrone. He has only fought outside of Muaythai rules a few times so he is more adaptable to be more comfortable with the rule set. To quote him in an interview “Muaythai is the ultimate.”

Tyrone, though five years younger than Carnage has almost twice as many fights. Holland prefers the K-1 rules set, but Tyrone has fought quite a bit in full Thai rules. I see no real advantage here for either guy.

Level of competition.
Carnage is many times world champion in Muaythai. As mentioned before he has captured the WMC and WBC titles at 86kgs. However he took the title from Magnum Sakai and hasn’t been in a competitive fight since May of 07 when he won the Scandinavian tournament over Ashwin Balrak.

Tyrone is actually moving in the other direction when it comes to level of competition. His strong resume at 77kgs has turned into victories over Hutnik at 82kgs, three times World Champ Gary
Turner at 95kgs, and Zabit Samedov at 95kgs. No contest here.

Power
Dead even here, both guys stop their opponents on a regular basis and it doesn’t matter the weapons. While Carnage has more stoppages with the elbows, Tyrone has more with the knees. It’s a deed heat in this area.

Even on paper the fight seems to be right down the middle. The fans of the Oceania area probably see it easy for Carnage, while Europe has their guy in Tyrone. However this is one of those fights that will slip through the cracks. Tyrone has dreams of being K-1 Champion and is fighting better and heavier opposition all the time. He now has the K-1 contract and will make his debut in Japan in March. People question whether or not he will be big enough for the big boys. Nathan feels his legacy is 86 to 91kgs and he will not deviate. He may miss out on some big paydays and his competition may remain low. I for one admire the resiliency and see nothing wrong with him holding down his weight class. Bernard Hopkins ruled the Middle-Weight division for 20 consecutive title defences. Joe Louis reigned for 24. Nathan can rein in his weight class all he wants and in no way is his career tarnished. Top muaythai fighters of Thailand including Yodsaenklai Fairtex, Buakaw Por Pramuk, and Anuwat Kaewsamrit may compete in the Champion of Champions event in Jamaica this June.



The Champion of Champions this year will be held at the Montego Bay, Jamaica, on June 26, 2009 and will host bouts of top fighters from around the world including Thailand’s Contender Asia champion Yodsaenklai, two-time two time K-1 MAX winner Buakaw, and Lumpini and Rajadamnern champion Anuwat, according to Sakchai Tapsuwan, chairman of the Amateur Muaythai Association of Thailand (AMAT).

“They will also film the tourist attractions and the young muaythai fighters in Thailand in order to produce a documentary to be aired in Jamaica and many other countries. It will motivate the young to learn muaythai, which is not yet a popular sport in Jamaica,” said Sakchai.

Hier gaat Spong het echt zwaar krijgen, Nathan Corbett is echt een topvechter.
Dit gaat een echte WAR worden, beide vechters hebben zich negatief uitgelaten over elkaar en willen aan de wereld bewijzen dat ze de beste zijn.

DAMN! Wat een partij zeg! Als er een gevecht is waar ik na uitgekeken heb is het deze wel (en Yodsaenklai VS Buakaw als die er ooit komt).

Gevaar is idd wat in het WMM al wordt gezicht dat wij denken dat Spong dit wint en in Oceanie dat Carbett wint.

Zelf heb ik het idee dat Spong de completere vechter is. De kracht van Corbett ligt erin dat hij zich als een vis in het water voelt op de full muaythai rules. Spong is de alatste tijd helemaal gefixeerd geweest op de K-1 regels. De vraag is hoe zijn oude stijl weer oppakt. Vooral met de toevoeging van ellebogen.

Ga voor Spong maar hij zal erg moeten uitkijken want Corbett gaat loeren om hem met een elleboog eruit te krijgen. En Corbett is een expert met zijn ellebogen.

THE KICKBOXING clash of the century is definitely on.

The Gold Coast's multi-world champion Nathan `Carnage' Corbett will go head-to-head with Dutch-Surinamese hitman Tyrone Spong in Jamaica on June 26.

The bout, between two undoubted kings of Muay Thai boxing, has been talked about for more than 12 months but an agreement could not be reached.

However it was Corbett who finally said `let's get it on' and agreed to not only move up from his fighting weight of 86kg to 93kg but to also fight under a 'no elbows' rule. Those two conditions are a huge concession by the Gold Coaster.

It is a massive weight jump and also elbows have long been a crucial part of the Carnage arsenal.

A stepping stone for Carnage will be tonight's bout at Brisbane's Sleeman Centre against a 90kg opponent, France's Manue. Another fight is planned in May before the Spong decider. Corbett wants to be in winning mode for the Explosion series at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in August.

Tja toch wel jammer dat het niet op full muay thai regels is vastgesteld want dan konden ze voor de wereldtitel WMC vechten nu helaas niet.
Dit wordt wel een hele vette pot, Corbett is echt de beste in zijn klasse samen met Tyrone Spong, durf echt geen voorspelling te doen wie dit gaat winnen, hoop natuurlijk dat Spong wint!!

Ik hoop dat Spong die Corbett net zo afmaakt als hij toen met Spejbl deed. Hoge verwachtingen maar een makkelijke KO overwinning voor Spong.

als het een jaar geleden was geweest op 84kg met full muay thai was het een droom match-up geweest, maar nu spong veel zwaarder is en op k1 tour, is dit gevecht niet eens zo super interessant.
