It appears Mirko Filipovic may not be done with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) after all … just when it seemed that he would never step foot inside the Octagon ever again
Despite company president Dana White going bananas after hearing that the Croatian allegedly signed a three-fight with DREAM immediately after his win over Mustafa Al-Turk, Index.hr is reporting that UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta flew out to Zagreb to personally talk to Filipovic about a possible UFC return.
The pair reportedly sat down and talked for two hours at Cro Cop’s house. And when it was all over, Fertitta apparently boarded his plane with a huge grin plastered on his face, saying that he made the Pride FC 2006 Open Weight Grand Prix winner “an offer he can’t refuse.”
This is certainly quite a turn of events, considering Cro Cop had not only ditched the UFC in favor of Japan’s Fighting & Entertainment Group (FEG), but he also apparently agreed to battle K-1 star Siala-Mou Siligia in a mixed martial arts showdown at DREAM 10 from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, on July 20.
However, it was recently revealed that the famed Croatian striker was hospitalized after reportedly suffering from high temperature, diarrhea and stomach pain — the textbook symptoms of Salmonella — putting the bout in jeopardy.
Now it may be off entirely if the latest news is indeed accurate.
“Cro Cop” most recently competed at UFC 99: “The Comeback,” making a brief return to the Octagon to defeat British heavyweight Mostapha Al-turk in controversial fashion — an inadvertent eye poke that was missed by the referee that led to the victory.
In the wake of UFC 99, White gave “Cro Cop” a verbal lashing for welshing on a supposed verbal deal for more fights under the UFC banner. Filipovic refuted the claim, saying the deal was for only one fight and that he would renegotiate after the event.
Then he appeared to be returning to the Land of the Rising Sun — the country that made him a star — because he wanted to fight multiple times this year and claimed the UFC expected him to wait six months for another fight.
Nothing about this whole situation seems to be crystal clear. Did he officially sign with DREAM? Will his next fight be in the UFC? And what repercussions if any will come from this soap opera?
For now, it looks like we will have to wait a little longer to know for certain the conclusion of Cro Cop‘s fate, but it appears he could be headed back to the Octagon … maybe.

intereseert me heel weinig dit, hij gaat toch nooit meer presteren zoals in pride... een paar jaar geleden stond hij tegen Fedor als een waardige tegenstander en nu vecht hij tegen HMC en Mustapha Al Turk??? Laat wat zelfrespect zien en ga met pensioen AUB...

Heb je wel goed naar die partij gekeken??? Er stond een goed afgetrainde CC in de kooi ten opzichte van de CC die we zagen tegen Alistair.
CC was gretig, vol in de aanval en aggresief en leek verreweg van de onzekere CC die we wederom tegen Alistair zagen.

alleen jammer van die eyepoke.. dat dan wel. Denk wel dat we het er allemaal over eens zijn dat hij niet meer op zijn oude nivo kan komen

CC was gretig, vol in de aanval en aggresief en leek verreweg van de onzekere CC die we wederom tegen Alistair zagen.
Ben ik wel met je eens. Je zag ook dat hij geen enkele moeite met al-turk had zoals het hoort. Het is alleen even afwachten hoe hij het tegen top 10 vechters gaat presteren.

Ik heb echt nog het gevoel wat Left High kicks te moeten zien in mijn leven.
Of dit bij Dream of de UFC is kan me eerlijk gezegd weinig schelen, zolang ze er maar komen.

Hij zag er verder heel goed uit, en vocht ook heel goed.

Als Cro Cop zichzelf serieus neemt als vechter dan is UFC een betere keuze. Niet dat je alleen een topper bent als je bij UFC vecht, maar na wat CC gezegd heeft komt het laf over als hij nu weer naar DREAM gaat..

Fast rising UFC heavyweight Junior dos Santos has recently revealed that he expects to face none other than Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic on September 19.
If dos Santos has his dates correct, that would place the bout at UFC 103.
The Brazilian knockout artist made the revelation during a recent interview with the Brazilian website Portal das Lutas.
He had previously announced that he would be facing Justin McCully at UFC 102 but dos Santos explained that the bout was recently scratched.
“I think I’ll fight September 19,” said the Black House fighter. “They took me off the August 29 show. My opponent’s changed. I’ll probably face Cro Cop. If I beat him I’ll be in really good standing. If that’s truly the case, I’m guaranteed on the main card and in the main event of the evening. If I were to fight now it wouldn’t be on the main card.”
It appears as though the private meeting between Cro Cop and Lorenzo Fertitta must have gone well in Croatia.
Filipovic was previously reported to be departing the UFC in favor of the Japanese DREAM promotion, but the recent news from dos Santos makes it appear as if we will be seeing the return of Cro Cop to the octagon sooner rather than later.
Cro Cop made his initial return to the UFC a successful one at UFC 99 as he stopped Mustapha al Turk by TKO in the first round, while dos Santos is 2-0 in the UFC with first round TKO’s over the likes of Fabricio Werdum and Stefan Struve to his credit.

Carwin zou zomaar een nieuwe HW champ kunnen zijn.. maar dan wil ik hem eerst nog tegen meer echte toppers willen zien.
Dos Santos is for real... Werdum en Struve werden echt afgestraft gewoon... en dat was puur staande.
Wetende dat Dos Santos Nogueira regelmatig laat afkloppen wilt ook wel iets zeggen over zijn grappling skills..

Ik denk dat carwin potten gaat breken.
Bedoelt ie nou dat ie op de main card komt als ie Cro Cop verslaat of als ie uberhaupt tegen Cro Cop vecht?
In het eerste geval zou dat betekenen dat Cro Cop in zijn volgende partij niet op de main card staat.
Ik denk dat "If that’s truly the case" slaat op als ie echt tegen Cro Cop vecht.
Het leest een beetje lastig zo achter elkaar, maar alleen door het wordt truly op die plek denk ik dat hij bedoeld als hij echt tegen Crocop vecht.
Dos Santos komt van Black House dus hij traint op dagelijkse basis met zowel Nog als Anderson Silva,

Maar gezien de topictitel denk ik dat je gelijk hebt. Want vechten op de undercard is voor Cro Cop nou niet bepaald "a deal he can't refuse".

ben heel benieuwd naar deze partij, als crocop deze pakt is hij in mijn ogen terug, pakt Dos santos hem dan geef ik hem een goede kans op een titelshot...

Based on that quote, speculation that UFC Kingpin Lorenzo Fertitta flew out on a private het to Zagreb to negotiate an offer-that-he-couldn’t-refuse with Mirko CroCop may indeed be true.
Word een zware partij voor crocop. Dos Santos is toch wel wat anders als zijn vorige tegenstander.
weet je ik heb steeds sterker het vermoeden dat Dana hem deze partij gegeven heeft omdat ie denkt dat CC absoluut gaat verliezen.
