The aftermath of the Affliction collapse
The shattered remains of Affliction MMA are being scattered throughout the MMA landscape. Here's a breakdown of what's gone down so far:
• Affliction clothing has come to terms with the UFC under an agreement that will allow the clothing brand to once again sponsor the world's top promotion and the fighters under its umbrella. (Yahoo!)
• The LA Times is reporting that Fedor Emelianenko is expected to sign with the UFC and UFC President Dana White will announce the signing on Friday. But, M-1 Global officials told SI that Fedor and the UFC are not close to finalizing a deal. No matter what the case is, Fedor will be conducting a press conference today and Dana White will be having one Friday. Stay tuned.
• Josh Barnett — who recently failed a pre-fight drug screening for anabolic steroids prior to a showdown with Fedor Emelianenko at Affliction: "Trilogy" on Aug. 1 — will take on Inoki Genome Federation in a professional wrestling match in Japan on Aug. 9. (MMA Fanhouse)
• Strikeforce announced that it has saved the Affliction: "Trilogy" light heavyweight showdown between Renato Sobral and Gegard Mousasi. Sobral, the Strikeforce 205-pound champion, will put his belt on the line on the Strikeforce: "Carano vs. Cyborg" card on Aug 15. (MMA Mania)
• Former IFL heavyweight "Big" Ben Rothwell will get another chance to battle undefeated Chase Gormley (6-0) as the UFC has opted to resurrect its Aug. 1 Affliction bout for UFC 104 on Oct. 24. (Sherdog)
