Blagoi Ivanov (2-0) claims he broke both his hands when he made his Sengoku debut against Kazuyuki Fujita at Sengoku 9 on Sunay night.
Ivanov is of course known for his win over Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko in a Sambo tournament late last year.
“I broke both my hands. His head was very hard,” Ivanov told a Japanese correspondent for Fighters Only yesterday evening.
He held his hands up to pose for the attached picture, showing some swelling on each plus multiple facial lacerations.
Nonetheless he managed to survive the three rounds with Fujita and take a decision win, although he also gassed out in the third round.
Ivanov was labelled ‘The Fedor Killer’ for his win over Fedor in the semi-finals of the 2008 World Combat Sambo Championships in St. Petersburg, Russia.
He beat the Russian heavyweight - who had taken gold in the competition for three consecutive years - by eight points to five.
Fedor had taken first place in every World Combat Sambo Championship he had entered prior to 2008, where he had to settle for a bronze medal.
Ivanov is due to face Aleksander Emelianenko, brother of Fedor, in Korea on September 26th. The match is being billed as Aleksander fighting to avenge Fedor.
