Chase Gormley and Stefan Struve will meet in a heavyweight clash at UFC 104, Fighters Only has learned.
Bout agreements for the fight were completed this week after Gormley’s original opponent Ben Rothwell was moved to a fight with Cain Velasquez at the same event, a source close to the fight told us.
Just 21 years old, Struve’s official record is 17-3 and he is 1-1 in the UFC, with his last fight being a come-from-behind submission win over Dennis Stojnic in a bloodbath bout at UFC 99.
Prior to joining the UFC, Struve fought at shows in England, Russia, Holland and Korea. He has two submission wins over UFC vets outside the organisation.
Gormley is 6-0 in professional mixed martial arts and has five wins inside the distance, with his sole decision win being on his professional debut (against Jon Murphy).
It will be his debut in the UFC after plying his trade in Canadian promotion MFC and various domestic-level shows. Gormley was die to fight Rothwell at Affliction Trilogy before that event was cancelled.
UFC 104 takes place on October 24th and will be headlined by a light-heavyweight title clash between Lyoto Machida and challenger Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua.
Cain Velasquez was originally supposed to fight Shane Carwin at the event, but Carwin has been bumped up to a heavyweight title shot against Brock Lesnar at UFC 106.
