TEAM GOLDEN GLORY DOMINATES K-1 WORLD GRAND PRIX IN SEOUL KOREA 26 SEPTEMBER 2009

Exactly one year ago Semmy Schilt did not qualify because of Peter Aerts win in the final 16 in Seoul Korea.
The year 2009 started with Alistair Overeem scoring a great KO victory against K-1 poster boy Badr Hari.
Then for some reason for the rest of the year we had some "bad luck" come over the Golden Glory team. GG Breda moved to another gym, Semmy moved to a new house and became a father, Saki got injured twice, Errol got sick and injured as well ( to read the full story see link below) “Does being unlucky exist”:
HYPERLINK "http://www.goldenglory.com/news090608.html" http://www.goldenglory.com/news090608.html

After this terrible chapter for Golden Glory in June the problems continued with Saki not be able to fight at the final 16 because of another injury obtained in his last fight in Korea. Errol Zimmerman fell ill after Fuji TV wanted to get footage of him at a fair and nightclub, in the late hours of the night the temperature dropped to 15 degrees and we could see Errol in a ride hooting and hollering, the result was a full on cold/flue where he was bed ridden for five days and was puking his guts out!
Karaev tore a muscle three weeks before the qualification and had to go to the physiotherapist every day until his fight!

Cor Hemmers and I knew something had to be done, something was not right, something strange had happened!
You start looking for excuses, ooh maybe it is because we won almost every fight for the last ten years, its now our turn to start loosing?
Maybe it’s the new gym?
Maybe its this or that? Questions Questions Questions......

The new initiative came from the management by sending all the fighters a letter with new rules and guidelines. Don’t be late when the training starts, don’t bring your “supporters” to the training. Get rid of people surrounding the team with their own ambitions and plans. ect......
We were going over at all these rules we made and we were really surprised, that we never did something sooner to stop the madness.
Our team became world famous, with this world fame more and more people want to be involved with you and your team. Sometimes not even with bad intentions but it was becoming a circus, this had to stop.
The letter was received very well by all the trainers and fighters.

Then something magical happened, because of all the effort to improve the team spirit and also positive thinking some good things were starting to happen. I remember Cor Hemmers reminding me that other teams fighters can also fall sick and get injured and have people surrounding them that are a bad influence, It's not just us - we have a big team and things don't always go as planned, but you can make the best of it and learn from the experiences and mistakes
Ruslan Karaev’s injury was healing at an unbelievable rate, fighters knew something was happening and there was a new energy field among everybody within Golden Glory.
Trainer Dave Jonkers assured me that Semmy was in great shape and was hungry for victory! You could see Alistair evolving in his training sessions and he felt great.

We decided to leave to Korea with only the fighters myself and the trainers, just us, no fans, only family. We did our usual hard training at Han’s gym. We ate together and had fun and got some rest while we adjusted to the time zone difference.

Golden Glory is a very strong team and we all feed off each others energy!! we all were focused on the same goal!! The power of the team was there to help injured fighters as well. Everybody was motivated again and the turning point came, harder then ever. When we had to perform - we succeeded 400%!!!

What happened on this night was even better then March 2008 where Golden Glory ruled the K-1 in Amsterdam Arena HYPERLINK "http://www.goldenglory.com/news080428.html" http://www.goldenglory.com/news080428.html

There was an electric atmosphere, trainer Cor Hemmers had a very unearthly experience, the fighters were extremely confident. I could feel something was about to happen and it was good and positive.

Errol Zimmerman knew that Glaube wanted revenge from the last fight in 2008. He was prepared, but Errol impressed even us by putting up to very solid rounds, despite two hard liver kicks by Glaube in the first round, Errol stood solid as a house. Round three was for Feitosa but Errol had round 1 and 2 on his name and wins the fight with 2-1, the first Golden Glory fighter advances to the final 8.

Now its time for Ruslan Karaev, he is fighting the Japanese fighter who KO’s Melvin Manhoef and beat Gokhan Saki. Karaev who is still injured tries to put up a fight but the Japense opponent looks more interesting in circling the ring and running away then fighting. Karaev is trying to cut corners and scores with a very nice back fist and later also some kicks. When the fight ends, it is Karaev pointed as winner and number two advances to the last eight.

Then it is Semmy Schilt's turn to kick some ass, can he regain his confident stance and machine like power after the previous difficult months in 2009?
The opponent is the two meter tall Daniel Ghita from Romania and is not a walk in the park. The first round Semmy is looking to find his old form and has to eat some punches but still wins the first round. In round two the old Semmy Schilt is back, with a huge working rate and speedy hands, he is landing solid punches to Ghita's head. Almost every low kick of Ghita's is blocked and Semmy scores with front kicks, high kicks and low kicks himself. In round three Ghita is in the survival mode and received two eight counts, by this time Ghita is a bloody mess and the final bell of the round is welcomed by Ghita.
Winner and G.G number three advances to the K-1 finals in Tokyo Semmy Schilt

Then the fight everybody has been waiting for Alistair Overeem takes on Mr K-1 himself Peter Aerts. Peter Aerts, won his fight in 2008 in Seoul, he defeated Semmy Schilt in the K-1 Gp 2008 and because of this win Semmy did not qualify for the last eight.
Alistair Overeem trained super hard and was confident - he is not even a K-1 fighter he is an MMA fighter, he still came with nothing to loose and everything to win, his training and motivation and good team work showed in his performance. With the help of his to his fantastic trainers - Martijn de Jong, Roberto Flamingo and Cor Hemmers!
When Overeem comes to the ring the whole team stands by his side with his three earlier victorious teammates supporting him. They all enthusiastically dance to Overeem's song making his entrence to the ring, its going to be a good night can be heard through the crazy big loudspeakers into the arena.

Overeem starts the fight with a fast and hard counter punch which resulting in a Peter Aerts flying to the ring ending up on his butt. Overeem continues this round with good punching combinations and good knees and kicks and is superior over Peter Aerts in the first round. The second round we can find again Alistair pressuring the fight and bringing the fight to Peter Aerts, who has to eat a huge knee to the face and an uppercut.
Round three Alistair throws great combinations and scores again with a jumping knee, both eyes of peter are swollen and he shows great heart as always by fighting till the end of the round. By winning all three rounds over legend Peter Aerts, Alistair Overeem is becoming a serious contender to become the heavyweight K-1 GP Champion in 2009. It is a shitty fealing when you train really hard and the result is that you can not advance, we know how Peter must feel, it’s the same feeling we had exactly one year before in the same stadium!

Life is strange and if there is a higher power, I am sure our energy was unstoppable because we at Golden Glory we all believed so much, we could turn the tides in or favor and we did!

These victories are dedicated to our fellow trainer Roberto Flamingo whose son Gianluca passed away at the young age of 15 on th 7th of August 2009, may his soul rest in peace. Roberto who is always there for Alistair is obviously going through a very difficult time, he was amazingly solid despite the loss of his son he came with the team Golden Glory to Korea and witnessed Veni Vidi Vici, we hope this moment in time can bring you a new start to a life full of love, peace and prosperity! We would also like to congratulate Roberto on the birth of his new baby girl.

All of us worked very hard and wrote history, we qualified with four Golden Glory fighters at the K-1 GP final 8 in Tokyo Japan on December 5th, the most prestigious Fight Tournament in the world!

17th of October Passenger Terminal Hal in Amsterdam 10 years of Golden Glory with great fights, check fight card at www.ultimateglory.com (mhtml:{5D373D8F-DA21-48C5-BAC3-8EF5C89D48ED}mid://00000017/!x-usc:http://www.ultimateglory.com/) with Alistair Overeem, Semmy Schilt, Stefan Leko, Errol Zimmerman, Nieky Holzken and................

Love and Peace
