Ultimate Glory 11 Las Vegas Edition Golden Glory 10 year anniversary
October 17th Amsterdam Holland
Golden Glory planned to celebrate their 10 year anniversary in style.
For one year Ron Nyqvist, Martijn de Jong and Johnny worked very hard towards this great even Glory 11“ A decade of fights” with Golden Glory.
The G.G party came early before the planned event on October 17th, G.G did the “impossible” qualifying with four G.G fighters in Korea (http://www.goldenglory.com/news091001_1.html (mhtml:{5D373D8F-DA21-48C5-BAC3-8EF5C89D48ED}mid://00000022/!x-usc:http://www.goldenglory.com/news091001_1.html) ) for the great K-1GP finals on December 5th 2008 in Tokyo Japan. Before this success in Korea Golden Glory management already negotiated the reserve fight for Gokhan Saki and Chalid Arrab, which means G.G will travel to Japan with 6 fighters a G.G force!
Martijn de Jong’s introduction in the PTA event hall was overwhelming! To hear his speech about the history of G.G was really moving especially after Golden Glory’s success not even three weeks ago, I got goose bumps!
Martijn told the whole world that 10 years ago Golden Glory was founded by Ron Nyqvist and Bas Boon and that the trainers Cor Hemmers, Dave Jonkers and himself had proudly produced a decade of fights with team Golden Glory.
Winning more then 10 tournaments, European and world championships and Semmy Schilt from Golden Glory capturing the K-1 GP title three times in a row it was time to celebrate.
The celebration took place in Amsterdam at the famous passenger terminal hall and the event looked like one of those Las Vegas special hotel events ( the title Glory 11 Las Vegas style was chosen well) with only VIP tables and very special lightning, it created a great atmosphere.
It became an electrifying evening with awesome fights.
Semmy Schilt got his revenge against Alexy Ignashov and won by decision. Alistair had no match in upcoming American heavyweight Tony Sylvester and finished the fight within 1.24 min in the first round with a quillotine choke.
Stefan Leko lost by TKO in round two by Anderson Bradock Silva and Ruslan Karaev who just came back from his fight in Japan fought a hard fight against Hesdy Gerges. Hesdy bombarded the leg of Karaev, who did or could not block a single leg kick thrown by Hesdy, but showed a lot of hard fighting till the end of the fight, which Hesdy won by a well deserved decision.
Some of these disappointed outcomes for G.G were quickly forgotten by the performance of Siyar Bahadurzada who created an upset victory over undefeated Rober Jocz in MMA.
Dion Staring almost took of the arm of Rodney Glunder in round 1.
Errol Zimmerman won a decision in a great battle over four rounds with Wendell Roche.
The biggest fight of the fight was the fight between Nieky Holzken and Faldir Chahbari.
Never, I have witnessed such a display of attacks and counter attacks in such a high pace in each round as in this fight. It had the audience on their edge of their seats every second of the fight, it was epic.
The score was pretty even, but Nieky Holzken delivered the more damaging shots like a huge landing back fist. Nieky’s well timed knee even created a huge gap in the forehead of Faldir just before the end of round three. We at G.G already thought Nieky won by points. But the judges scored the fight a draw and the public was the winner as another crazy round of Muay Thai.
Nieky Holzken kept the pressure and finally won the extension round, winner Nieky Holzken.
An unforgettable night of fights created a great atmosphere and the after party can not be described in words.
Now the following day after so much adrenaline, I am preparing our trip to Osaka where Alistair Overeem will fight at the Dream 12 card October 25th.
The beginning of another decade of Golden Glory fights!
