What does Muay thai mean to you?
For me, muay thai is Thailand itself. Muay thai is a competition carved into the soul of every Thai.
When I first joined, I had no idea what K-1 even was. Until then, I had only fought in Muay thai, so I went in hoping to do all I can do as a nak muay.
I don't think there is that big of a difference between muay thai and K-1. The only difference is that a few techniques are unusable in one, but I can still use the rest.
I've been training the same I have for every fight. Nothing different.
How has muay thai helped you in K-1.
My experiences in muay thai have been of great use in K-1. The timing to unleash the weapons embedded in my body aren't different from muay thai.
Before 2006 tournament: "I will show you that my weapons aren't limited to knees and kicks."
I doubled, tripled the amount of practice I put into my hands. I practiced, keeping in mind to throw everything I had with my punches. Then, most of my practice was devoted for my hands. Since then, the time I have been putting into kicks have waxed and wane, trying to find a good balance.
What does it mean to become a MAX world champion?
To become no 1 in the world is important, not just for me, but for muay thai. If I become no1, that means that will prove muay thai's competitiveness.
Any fighter has times when he can't put up his best performance, or fight like he imagined. That's inevitable. Of course I'm confident in my victory. You can't fight without confidence in yourself. All that's left is to bring my condition, mental and physical, to its best.
Will you become K-1's next superstar?
I would like to become the leader of K-1 MAX. I will definitely take my third belt!
