Mixed martial arts fans hoping to see former EliteXC middleweight champion Murilo "Ninja" Rua in the Ultimate Fighting Championship or Strikeforce anytime soon may be disappointed.

Ron Foster, the matchmaker for the up-and-coming Shine Fights promotion, today confirmed with MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com
(http://www.mmajunkie.com)) that the organization has signed Rua to an exclusive three-fight U.S. deal.

Rua (17-10-1) is expected to make his promotional debut in early 2010, possibly against UFC and Strikeforce vet Falaniko Vitale (26-9).

Vitale isn't under contract with Shine Fights but is expected to sign for the fight.

Shine Fights, which launched earlier this year, is operated by Ohio State University MBA grad Devin Price, who is the brother of "The Ultimate Fighter 6" cast member Devin Price. The organization has hosted two events to date, "Genesis" in Columbus, Ohio, on May 9 and "American Top Team vs. The World" in Miami on Sept. 4.

The promotion has featured notables such as Yves Edwards, Roan Carneiro, Antonio Mendes, Antwain Britt, Micah Miller and NFL vet Herbert "Whisper" Goodman. The organization also garnered some attention in September with the signing of colorful boxing veteran Ricardo Mayorga, a former WBA/WBC welterweight and WBC junior middleweight champion who's fought everyone from Oscar De La Hoya to Shane Mosley to Félix Trinidad.

Rua most recently scored a 39-second knockout of Alex Stiebling at a September Bitetti Combat show in Brazil. He returns to the organization in December to fight Jason Jones.

Prior to the Stiebling victory, Rua suffered back-to-back losses to Benji Radach and Riki Fukuda. Even with the defeats, though, he's a respectable 6-3 over the past three years.

While many have pointed to Rua as a potential addition to Strikeforce's growing middleweight division, the Shine Fights deal will keep Rua exclusive to the organization. Additionally, UFC president Dana White told MMAjunkie.com Radio over the weekend that the UFC was unlikely to sign "Ninja" at this time.

Rua is the older brother of current top UFC light heavyweight contender Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.
