Semmy Schilt's starts on his way to the K-1 throne after crushing Daniel Ghita. Schilt now plans to win back the crown if he can defeat LeBanner at the FieLDS K-1 WORLD GP 2009-Final (December 5th, Yokohama Arena).

Winning is that much closer.

Q: There were some dangerous moments with you up there against Daniel Ghita in the WGP World Final 16. How did you do win?
Schilt: I got off to a slow start, but once things got going, things started to go how I wanted.
Q: There was a lot of support for Ghita coming from the Korean fans.
Schilt: I don't how to sum it up, but it does seem to me like there are a lot more Korean fans this year than last year.
Q: You've been talking about taking back the throne this year. How has your mentality changed?
Schilt: My feelings are the same. Beating Ghita just brought me a little closer. I know winning is that much closer now.
Q: With so few people to choose from, why did you want to go against LeBanner?
Schilt: It was a big thing for me to choose. I'd rather choose than not even know who I'm fighting.
Q: Was it stressful to decide who to fight?
Schilt: Since I chose sixth, there weren't many options for me to choose from. If I'd gone first, on the other hand, there would have been a lot of people to choose from. But it probably would have been the same either way. (laugh)
Q: Were you thinking of getting a sort of revenge on Badr Hari in the semifinals?
Schilt: I was thinking it would be a good rematch. I thought if he wanted to fight me, then okay.
Q: And you didn't want to?
Schilt: It's a tournament. You can't really choose who you go up against. It's not like it's one match. Whoever you get is up to fate. Then you've got your showdown.
Q: Who would you have picked if you could have made the decision?
Schilt: Other people think about that, but I don't. If you try to think like, this guy's good, that guy's good, the lottery's just going to get you back with a surprise. There's no point in guessing.

Using Alistair's strategy

Q: What did you think of the block you're in?
Schilt: Not much. I'm sure I can win either way. I'm pretty confident.
Q: Even though you have no preference for who you fight.
Schilt: Just beat who I'm up against. That's all.
Q: If you win, is that the end of K-1 for you?
Schilt: First I got to get this year's title. But next year!? I'm not thinking that far ahead!
Q: What do you think of Alistair beating Aerts so bad?
Schilt: Peter's fighting style didn't work with Alistair's. If I fought like Alistair, they'd probably have to change the rules of K-1. They'd make it so you can't win like that.
Q: As a K-1 fighter, what do you think about an MMA fighter in the Best 8?
Schilt: Well, I'm also from MMA. I'll just say I think I'd fight like Alistair.
Q: That's a pretty strong comment. Alistair is saying that if he wins, he's going to fully devote himself to fighting MMA. Wouldn't that be pretty rough for the sport?
Schilt: I won't let that happen.
It doesn't matter what martial art you use

Q: Since you came out of MMA to become a K-1 fighter, it must be kind of complicated having two kinds of fans.
Schilt: It's not like that. The fans all come together in K-1, so it's the other way around. No matter where you came from, it doesn't really matter. People get popular based on who they are. I think that's the important thing.
Q: Do you see yourself as a middle ground between MMA and K-1?
Schilt: Yeah, I see it like that. I'm hoping that there are more fans from both sides. And I hope I'm the one they're cheering for. (laugh)
