So what is next for the elite K-1 Heavyweights? The rumors of no K-1 heavyweight kickboxing fights on New Year's Eve is all but squashed with the latest round of rumors. With Alistair Overeem (http://www.headkicklegend.com/2009/12/10/1195244/alistair-overeem-to-fight-kazuyuki) booked in another gimme fight contested under MMA rules, it leaves Badr Hari without an opponent, which somehow led to a fight with Jerome Le Banner. While this is a new fight, the two have somehow never met in the ring until now, it might not be that competitive. Le Banner put a hurting on a retiring Musashi, but Musashi still gave him problems and put up a valiant fight in September and last weekend Le Banner did not look prepared at all. Le Banner entered his fight with Semmy Schilt a defeated man already and took a knee twice to end the fight.
Speaking of the four-time K-1 World Grand Prix Champion, Semmy Schilt is set to face off against Hong Choi Man in a K-1 rules bout. Many MMA fans know Choi from his freakshow MMA fights and inability to really get a solid MMA winning streak going, but in K-1 rules he has impressed in the past. Sadly for him, he has never impressed enough to be seen as a threat to Semmy Schilt. This fight smells of sponsors, who love Choi and the ratings he brings in, against one of the least popular World Grand Prix Champions. I'm not sure Semmy kneeing Choi to death will make him popular with Japanese fans, but why not try?
Gegard Mousasi's second K-1 fight looks to be lined up with the man we last saw face down on the canvas after a second knee from the clinch (which is illegal, I might add) from Alistair Overeem during the World Grand Prix, Ewerton Teixeira. Do not count Teixeira out just because he was destroyed by Overeem, as Badr Hari was destroyed by Overeem just under a year ago now as well. Mousasi has heavy hands and very good boxing, but Teixeira's kicks are enough to frustrate any aggressive fighter and make for a tough night.
Then, of course, we have Kazuo Misaki. Misaki who was serving a suspension from World Victory Road for his legal problems stemming from defacing a police vehicle has apparently had the suspension lifted (http://www.kamipro.com/news/?id=1260532026), so we now get to look forward to him pounding in the face of Kazushi Sakuraba as he looks for a leg lock.
