(Couture and Toughill, locked in an old-fashioned bikini duel.)
The beef between female fighters Erin Toughill and Kim Couture (http://www.cagepotato.com/erin-toughill-dumps-barrel-haterade-kim-couture) just won’t die, mainly because Toughill won’t let it die. She hates “Sugar Free” so much, she managed to take a UG thread about Gina Carano (http://wiki.cagepotato.com/index.php/Gina_Carano) and turn it into another rant about Couture (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/mma.cfm?go=forum.posts&forum=1&thread=1567632&page=2), who no one had even mentioned up until that point. At first it was the usual criticism of Kim’s lack of talent (http://www.cagepotato.com/kerry-vera-put-hurting-kim-couture) and inflated sense of self-importance, but then she took aim at Couture’s website (http://kimcouture.tv/index.html), pointing out that the bio page doesn’t really make sense.
Out of sheer idle curiosity, we went to check it out. What we learned is that Toughill is totally right. As unintentionally hilarious bio pages go, this one is pretty great. For example, after describing how Kim “took the ‘Bull by the Horns,’ so to speak” by attending public school as a child, the biography offers this description of her early work life:

“Kim put her academic skills to the test and pasted the test to become a Sheriff. At the age of 21 Kim had became an officer of the law. Two years on the force Kim was taking her first vacation to visit family in Las Vegas, NV. While on the trip Kim met in passing the top execs at Mandalay Bay (which at this time was under construction). She was later offered a position at the resort for double her Sheriff pay. For a mom supporting two children it was in her best interest to accept and make the move to Las Vegas.”
What we see here is not only a rudimentary grasp of the English language, but also a bizarre approach to relaying facts. All this tells us is that Kim Couture, then a roughly 23-year-old sheriff’s department employee, met some casino executives while on vacation and they offered her a high-paying job. Why did they hire a young woman with no college degree and no experience in their industry? Doesn’t say. Why would it? It’s just her own biography on her own website.
Normally we wouldn’t waste time mocking someone’s poorly done personal website. Well, maybe privately we would, but we wouldn’t make you read about it. But since Couture claims to be such a driving force in the world of women’s MMA, describing herself as a “mother, a model, a business women and a in your face, tell it like it is fighter, who has been changing the world of MMA and bringing acceptance for female fighters around the world in a once male dominated sport,” it kind of seems like she’s asking for it.
We’re finding it difficult to name any way she’s actually changed the world of MMA (for the better, anyway), and we can’t help but think that such a successful “business women” would at least shell out the extra bucks to hire a native speaker of English, and possibly even a professional writer, to write the copy for her website.
Point, set, match: Erin Toughill.
