Romanian site kombat.ro has exclusive news on the first Heavyweight K-1 event of 2010. On May 21, Bucharest will host the K-1 GP Bucharest. Typically, this is around the time K-1 holds their Europe qualifying GP, so all indications are that this will indeed be a tournament show where the winner earns a spot in the Final 16 for the 2010 World Grand Prix.

Confirmed for the show already is former K-1 GP champion Remy Bonjasky. Along with Bonjasky, there are a number of other rumored participants including Ruslan Karaev, Ray Sefo, Bob Sapp, Alexey Ignashov, and Alistair Overeem. Raul Catinas and Catalin Morosanu are two of the local stars who may be entered in the GP tournament, and from the local level there is also talk of resident K-1 ColliZion sideshow fighter Alexndre Lungu taking part (Lungu v. Sapp anyone?), though it is unlikely he would be in the tournament.

Always an exciting event, the Europe qualifying GP was won last year by Zabit Samedov, and in 2008 by Errol Zimmerman.

Earlier this week we reported on the K-1 GP event to be held May 21 in Bucharest. Now, more details for the event are becoming available.

This will indeed be a qualifying tournament to gain entry into the 2010 Grand Prix Final 16, and will take the place of the Europe qualifier often held in Amsterdam, and last year held in Lodz. Confirmed for the 8-man tournament are Sebastian Ciobanu and 2009 Europe GP winner Zabit Samedov. They will be joined by the winners of two regional tournaments, to be held March 28 in Warsaw, Poland, and April 10 in Vilnius, Lithuania, as well as four more participants yet to be determined.

As we mentioned, Remy Bonjasky is confirmed for the event in a superfight. Other unconfirmed, but rumored fights include Catalin Morosanu v. Ruslan Karaev, Ionut Iftimoaie v. Ray Sefo, and Bob Sapp v. Alexandru Lungu. There's also a possibility of Alexey Ignashov v. Errol Zimmerman, though Ignashov may instead end up in the tournament.

Of course, all of this is highly subject to change, but if it does come together this will be a fantastic card. Morosanu v. Karaev is a great fight between two high-energy heavy-hitters, while Sapp v. Lungu scratches my freakshow fight itch in just the perfect way. Let's hope K-1 makes the formal announcement soon so that 2010 can officially get underway.

vorig jaar was zelfde verhaal, showtime 16-5 en k1 23-5 in polen. Alleen toen niet echt hele grote namen (Samedov, Lascenko)..

Heb je de grote namen gezien die op de it's showtime gala staan? Kunnen we tenminste van zowel de k1 max toppers(souwer/holzken etc.) als de k1 toppers als badr hari/melvin manhoef etc.Ik kijk liever naar it's showtime beste line up in jaren.

Ik krijg zo langzamerhand een beetje een punthoofd van dat Golden Glory..

Telkens als er een vechter verliest van Golden Glory,ligt het aan de jury,of weten ze wel weer iemand de schuld van hun verlies te geven.Vervolgens altijd lopen te zeuren op Mixfight.En nu weer zo een kinderachtig stook bericht richting I'ts Showtime.

Ik vindt het allemaal maar zielig,en een slechte invloed hebben op de hele vechtsportscene hier in NL.

Ik kijk ook liever naar I'ts showtime,al is het alleen maar om golden glory te ontwijken..

Waar gaat deze topic eigenlijk weer over, de informatie blijkt zelfs niet te kloppen volgens dutch, jij bent toevallig niet van team GG zeker Jamilla, ohja.. FAIL volgende keer beter...

Dacht dat ik eerder had gelezen dat GG en Showtime de handen in een gingen slaan. Dat zou potentiele toppartijen kunnen opleveren als je die teams tegen elkaar zou kunnen matchen. Nu lijkt het erop dat GG op de hand zit van K-1 en een groot aandeel gaat krijgen in die show die ong dezelfde tijd gaat plaatsvinden.

Gemiste kans voor beide partijen want Showtime zou een nog betere lineup kunnen neerzetten (die ik persoonlijk al top vind) en voor GG een gemiste kans want ze staan tegen een stel pannenkoeken gematched. Dan kan GG natuurlijk wel weer een mooi verhaal schrijven zoiets als 5x winst in het land waar pinpasfraude is uitgevonden.

Hoe komt een organisatie als K-1 er toch weer op om Bob Sapp nog een gevecht te geven?Echt ongelofelijke actie van de organisatie.Ignashov in mindere mate zelfde verhaal.Zijn er dan toch politieke spelletjes die belangrijker zijn dan de sportieve?Wie beslist dit eigenlijk,is daar een iemand voor verantwoordelijk of is daar een heel team mee bezig(met de matchmaking?)
