Massachusetts State Athletic Commission introduce double weigh-ins
The Massachusetts State Athletic Commission have decided to introduce an interesting provision to their set of rules now that the sport of mixed martial arts has been legalised, approving the inclusion of a double weigh-ins ahead of the events.
The following was posted on Sherdog.com:
“The Massachusetts ‘double weigh-in’ provision calls for a fighter to be weighed in no more than 36 hours before his fight and again on the night of the fight. The fighter cannot weigh more than 1.0625 times his initial weight on the second weigh-in.”
The inclusion of this rule shouldn’t affect the majority of fighters, only the ones who drastically cut to make their designated weight. The big question is will this seriously affect the health of those fighters if they can’t rehydrate themselves fully before their fight?
