Fresh off a dominating win over Brandon Vera at UFC 125, light heavyweight Thiago Silva (15-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) next will fight former champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (31-8 MMA, 6-2 UFC) in a UFC 130 bout expected to have a major impact on the title picture.

) verbal agreements are in place for the fight.

UFC 130 takes place May 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Jackson vs. Silva likely will be part of the pay-per-view main card, possibly in a headlining or co-headlining spot.

Despite fighting for the first time in a year due to injuries, Silva looked sharp in a lopsided unanimous-decision win over Vera this past week. Silva dominated the fight on the mat with frequent takedowns, a smothering top game, and ground and pound that ultimately broke his opponent's nose. In the end, the judges awarded the Brazilian the decision via scores of 30-26, 30-27 and 30-27.

Prior to the victory, Silva opened his career with a 13-0 mark but then went 1-2 with losses to former champs Lyoto Machida and Rashad Evans and a knockout win over Keith Jardine.

Jackson, meanwhile, recently got back into the title picture and rebounded from his own loss to Evans with a close split-decision victory over Machida in November's UFC 123 headliner. It was his third win in the four fights since he lost his belt to Forrest Griffin in 2008. The former PRIDE star's other recent victories came over Wanderlei Silva (knockout) and Jardine (decision).

ik dacht trouwens dat rampage z'n titleshot al binnen had, blijkbaar dus niet of hij wou gewoon net als JDS vechten ipv heel lang wachten zoals die zielige Rashad bv. zou doen

voor het zien van thiago's gevecht tegen vera was dit echt mijn droom matchup... want quinton en thiago zijn normaal gesproken beide killers die voor de KO gaan en niks minder...
alleen na het zien van thiago's gevecht tegen vera en hoe hij steeds voor de takedowns ging... ben ik bang dat hij bij quinton hetzelfde gaat doen..

hoe dan ook, hoop dat het een top gevecht wordt en ik kijk er wel naar uit

kan iemand titel veranderen? want de Main Event is niet rampage vs silva maar Edgar vs Maynard!, wel hele dikke card wordt het nu!! vooral de main en comain event!! en dan ook nog eens mir vs nelson... en vechters als alves en struve waar ik fan van ben.... dit begint wel echt mijn card te worden.... mooiste zou geweest zijn JDS ipv. nelson, maar dit is ook mooi

wow helemaal niks mis met deze card! ze gaat tot het gaatje, dat zie ik altijd graag.

maar even ontopic. Las op Twitter dat Martijn de Jong van GG aan Rampage heeft aangeboden om bij hun te komen trainen op voorbereiding van deze partij. Rampage vindt het een goed idee en komt er op terug!

ik hoop dat Rampage deze pot pakt maar vond Thiago wel erg sterk

Dana White Confirms Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard III at UFC 130

The growing rivalry between UFC lightweight stars Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard will see its next chapter at UFC 130 in May, when the two square off for the third time.

UFC president Dana White confirmed to MMA Fighting that the lightweight championship bout would take place on May 28 in Las Vegas.

Less than two weeks ago, the two fought to a split draw at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, the same venue that is likely to house them in May. During that bout, the champion Edgar overcame a nightmare 10-8 first round before gamely battling his way back to a stalemate on the judges' scorecards.

Both fighters left the cage thinking they'd won, but one judge scored it for Edgar 48-46, one scored it for Maynard 48-46, and the third scored a 47-47 draw. The split draw allowed Edgar to retain the belt, but left him with a feeling of dissatisfaction, and on Thursday he told MMA Fighting he preferred a rematch with Maynard over a possible match with WEC champion Anthony Pettis.

"I'm looking forward to the rematch," he said. "I don't want to walk away with anything that's undecisive. A draw is up in the air. It's unfinished business."

Edgar sustained a minor ankle injury and a broken nose in the fight, but said he'd be ready to go whenever the UFC wants him.

"I busted my nose some, but I bust my nose all the time so I'm not too worried," he said.

Maynard walked away from the fight without any serious injuries.

In their first fight in April 2008, Maynard earned a unanimous decision over Edgar, but Edgar eventually leapfrogged him in the rankings and captured the belt from the legendary BJ Penn at UFC 112 in April 2010.
