Evgeni Kogan, an executive for the Russian company M-1 Global, announced via Twitter that Fedor Emelianenko is likely to be heading to the Netherlands to train for his next mixed martial arts fight. Kogan also revealed that Emelianenko would likely be bringing some Americans over to work with him.
In an e-mail Kogan informed Fighters Only Magainze that Vinny Magalhaes will be featured prominently in the training of Emelianenko, now that he has been signed to M-1.
After being virtually undefeated in his first 33 fights, Emelianenko has been defeated in two straight MMA appearances. His first loss came to Fabricio Werdum in June of 2010. The Brazilian was able to catch Fedor in a triangle armbar and forced the Russian to tap. Then in his Strikeforce appearance earlier this month, Fedor was dominated by the much larger Antonio Silva. The bout was halted by the cageside doctors after the second round.
The move to the Netherlands would represent a tremendous change for the Russian, as Emelianenko has long held his training camps in freezing Stary Oskol, Russia. The change in location may help Emelianenko climb his way back up the heavyweight rankings.
His next fight has not been announced yet, although Emelianenko did say that he was going to compete in the Russian national Sambo championship in the coming weeks.
