Het blijft balen dat de HWGP is uitgesteld, maar dit wordt toch ook wel een mooie card zo.
I wonder, does it pour me something opaque...

Strikeforce's Masvidal wants "toughest guy out there," may draw Noons on April 9

Strikeforce contender Jorge Masvidal has his eyes on current lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez, but with just one win for the promotion since 2008, he knows he may have to wait.
In the meantime, "Gamebred" wants to stay busy against the best competition the promotion can find.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that may very well be K.J. Noons, and the two might clash as soon as April's "Diaz vs. Daley" event.
Featuring a pair of title fights with welterweight champ Nick Diaz facing Paul Daley and lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez meeting Tatsuya Kawajiri, "Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley" takes place April 9 at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, Calif.
Fighting under the Strikeforce banner for the first time since 2008, Masvidal earned a unanimous-decision win over the previously undefeated Billy Evangelista at this past weekend's "Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson" event. Following the win, Masvidal said he believed he should be considered among the promotion's top lightweights.
"I know Billy had like six- or seven-straight wins for Strikeforce, so he's definitely got to be up there," Masvidal said. "If I can't fight for the title, then the next toughest guy out there I'd like to fight and kick his butt."
Noons, meanwhile, is looking to return to action for the first time since October, when he lost a unanimous decision to Nick Diaz in a bid for Strikeforce's welterweight title. Now Noons drops back down to his natural weightclass.
Prior to the loss, Noons had been on a six-fight winning streak.
Of course, the matchup isn't yet a done deal. First, Masvidal would need to be released from an indefinite medical suspension issued by the Ohio Athletic Commission.
Secondly, the organization needs to decide if it has room on the April 9 fight card. With a pair of title fights already official for the event, the evening's Showtime broadcast will have room for just two additional fight bookings, according to Coker.
With Mike Kyle vs. Gegard Mousasi official, and Shinya Aoki vs. Lyle Beerbohm all but set, the Masvidal-Noons showdown could be pushed back

Paul Daley Signs Contract to Fight Nick Diaz in April

Nick Diaz vs. Paul Daley, the most anticipated welterweight title fight in Strikeforce history, is officially happening on April 9.

Diaz's manager and trainer, Cesar Gracie, confirmed with MMA Fighting that the British slugger signed the bout agreement on Tuesday, thus ending speculation that "Semtex" would pull out of the fight.

Diaz vs. Daley had already been announced by the promotion, but after Zuffa purchased Strikeforce two weeks ago, Daley hinted online that he may back out of the title fight given his previous relationship with UFC president Dana White.

"Business as usual," Daley wrote on the Underground forum, "what if I don't want to fight for Dana White/Zuffa?"

    He added:

"Dana white bans me for life from the UFC, Then buys STRIKEFORCE, and thinks im still gonna be EASY and fight on one of the most anticipated fights of the year (vs Diaz)? Which will no doubt make ZUFFA/Dana White money.

"Daley vs Diaz still on?.....Someone better holla at my manager real quick."

Even though White banned Daley from the UFC after Daley punched Koscheck after the bell at UFC 113, the UFC president has said that he will honor Daley's existing contract with Strikeforce despite his feelings towards "Semtex."

When asked at the UFC 128 post-fight press conference about Daley's involvement on the April 9 card in San Diego, White didn't seem worried about his threat to pull out of the title fight.

"Paul Daley has a contract, so it would be a good idea if he did," White said with a smirk.

    Good news: he did.

Keith Jardine vs. Gegard Mousasi Set for Strikeforce April 9

Keith Jardine is returning to the big leagues of mixed martial arts, taking a tough fight on short notice against Gegard Mousasi on the April 9 Strikeforce event.

Jardine, who was once among the UFC's light heavyweight rising stars, was cut by that promotion last year when he lost his fourth straight fight. He then signed with Shark Fights and lost a fifth consecutive fight, and it appeared that his career had been derailed.

But Jardine stayed active and has won two straight fights on small-time MMA shows, and now he's jumping at a major opportunity to fight Mousasi.

Mousasi, who was slated to fight Mike Kyle until Kyle had to pull out of the fight with an injury, will be heavily favored to beat Jardine. But if Jardine could pull the upset, he'd be on a three-fight winning streak and all of a sudden relevant in the light heavyweight division again.

Jardine stayed in the UFC's good graces and said all the right things after he was cut by the UFC, and that was obviously a wise move now that the UFC has purchased Strikeforce. This is a big opportunity for Jardine to fight on a big-time card again, not long after it looked like his career was going nowhere.

Tatsuya Kawajiri Isn't Training in Cage for Strikeforce Title Fight

Top 10 lightweight Tatsuya Kawajiri, who has been accustomed to fighting inside a ring the past 11 years in Japan, hasn't made adjustments for his first-ever fight inside a cage.

As he heads into his title shot this Saturday against Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez in San Diego, Kawajiri apparently doesn't think the fighting surface will be a major factor in the fight.

"He's been training as usual and no specific training geared towards a fight in a cage," Kawajiri's translator Ryo Ishibashi said on a recent Strikeforce conference call.

It's been evident time and time again that there are at least some differences when it comes to ring vs. cage. Melendez is one to acknowledge these variations and sees his cage experience as one of the possible advantages against Kawajiri. While Melendez will obviously not rely on Kawajiri to get flustered in a new setting, he plans on exploiting it if the opportunity presents itself.

"I'm not banking on anything, but I am happy that I'm familiar with the cage, and that I'm familiar with the California commission, and I'm familiar with my hometown and that people are going to be cheering for me," Melendez said. "That's an advantage for me, but I'm not banking on it messing with him. But if it does give him problems, I'll totally take advantage and try to expose it, like I did to [Shinya] Aoki."

More on Kawajiri off the Diaz vs. Daley call:

Kawajiri said he only missed about a week of training due to the recent earthquake and tsunami tragedy in Japan and although the Japanese MMA scene and business is at an all-time low, Kawajiri doesn't see himself out to represent Japanese MMA against Melendez.

"He's always fighting for himself and this fight is between himself and Gilbert, so that's No. 1," Ishibashi said. "But No. 2, he does want to meet the expectations of his fans and friends. He's looking forward to seeing his fans, friends and family smiling after the fight."

Kawajiri also commented on how different this rematch will be compared to their first meeting in 2006 when Melendez escaped with the unanimous decision after two rounds.

"He feels he has advanced as an MMA fighter," Ishibashi said. "He thinks he will be able to fight a smarter fight this time. He is obviously training to become a better MMA fighter every day and that's what he's looking forward to in the second fight with Gilbert."
