Henderson vs. Fedor targeted for July Strikeforce PPV
Robbie Lawler vs. Tim Kennedy Added to Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson Card
A fight pitting recent middleweight title challenger Robbie Lawler against Tim Kennedy has been added to Strikeforce's July 30 show outside Chicago.
Strikeforce announced the fight via Twitter on Thursday. The fight is expected to be part of the main card for Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson, which takes place at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill., a northwest suburb of Chicago.
Lawler (18-7, 1 NC, 2-3 Strikeforce) fights for the first time since a January submission loss to Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza in San Jose, Calif. Lawler got that title shot on the strength of a 50-second knockout of Matt Lindland about two months earlier in St. Louis.
Kennedy (13-3, 4-1 Strikeforce) returns after making quick work of Melvin Manhoef at Strikeforce's March show in Columbus, Ohio. In that fight, he submitted the Dutch kickboxing specialist in the first round.
Kennedy, too, has a loss to Jacare on his resume. Kennedy, a Bronze Star medal winner in the Army, fought Jacare for Strikeforce's vacant middleweight title after Jake Shields vacated the belt to sign with the UFC. That loss was his only one in six fights.
Lawler, the former EliteXC middleweight champion, has had an up-and-down stretch since winning that belt in September 2007 against Murilo "Ninja" Rua. After EliteXC folder, Lawler picked up with Strikeforce – but it was almost a year between fights for him. Since his Strikeforce debut, a loss to Shields, he had a pair of 2010's best knockouts against Melvin Manhoef and Matt Lindland, plus a decision loss to Renato "Babalu" Sobral. Lawler hasn't had a winning streak since 2007.
Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson features a main event between light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson and former pound-for-pound MMA kingpin Fedor Emelianenko, who is looking to rebound from consecutive losses for the first time in his career.
The card also features a women's welterweight title fight between champion Marloes Coenen and Miesha Tate, a welterweight bout between Paul Daley and Evangelista Santos and a light heavyweight bout between Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal and Roger Gracie.
The show will be Strikeforce's second in the Chicago area, and second at the Sears Centre. The promotion's first trip to the venue featured a heavyweight tilt between Fedor and Brett Rogers, a fight Fedor won by second-round TKO – his last victory. That main card was broadcast live on CBS. The July 30 show's main card will be televised by Showtime.

Injury to 'Cyborg' Santos Forces Him Out of Paul Daley Bout
A shoulder injury has knocked Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos out of his scheduled July 30 Strikeforce fight with British bomber Paul Daley, MMA Fighting has confirmed through sources with knowledge of the situation.
The injury was first reported by MMAPrime.tv.
A source told MMA Fighting that Strikeforce was at work on finding a suitable replacement.
The Daley-Santos fight had only been announced less than two weeks ago, and was expected to be an exciting addition to the card at Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The duo are known as two of the fiercest strikers in the promotion's welterweight division, as Santos has earned 11 of his 18 career wins by knockout, and Daley has 20 of his 27 via KO.
With just over one month to go, there may be limited options to replace him. One possibility is undefeated rising star Tyron Woodley, who has nothing scheduled at the present time. Last month, Woodley told MMA Fighting that he was hopeful of a July return and preferred a bout with Daley. Though that fight didn't materialize at the time, his manager later told MMA Fighting that Woodley would ramp up his training and be prepared in case a slot should open.
Daley (27-10-2) is coming off a first-round TKO loss to Nick Diaz in an April championship bout. Afterward, Diaz vacated the belt to move to the UFC and a chance to fight its champion Georges St-Pierre. With Diaz gone, the division is in a state of flux, and Daley is back in the mix for gold. Now, all he needs is an opponent for July 30 and a chance to prove it.
The anticipated Strikeforce show features a main event pitting Fedor Emelianenko against Dan Henderson

Paul Daley to Face Tyron Woodley in July 30 Strikeforce Non-Title Match
Just days after an injured opponent left him without a foe for July 30's Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson event, Paul Daley has a new challenger in his sights.
According to sources with knowledge of the situation, undefeated prospect Tyron Woodley has accepted an offer to step in and face Daley at the upcoming date.
MMAJunkie.com first reported the matchup on Saturday night. Though at the time it wasn't clear if the bout would be for the vacant Strikeforce welterweight title, sources tell MMA Fighting that it will be contracted as a three-round, non-title fight.
Still, it is the fight Woodley wanted. In May, he told MMA Fighting that he hoped to return in July, against Daley. That possibility seemed to come and go when Strikeforce matched Daley with fellow striker Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos, but after Santos suffered a shoulder injury, the promotion granted Woodley his wish.
Woodley remains unbeaten in his pro career at 8-0, most recently earning a unanimous decision over Tarec Saffidiene in January. Meanwhile, Daley is 27-10-2 after suffering a TKO loss at the hands of Nick Diaz in April.
After Diaz vacated his belt to join the UFC and face Georges St-Pierre, it seemed possible that Daley and Woodley -- two of Strikeforce's highest-ranking welterweights -- would square off for the belt, but that will not happen. For now, it remains unclear how Strikeforce plans to address the situation.
Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson takes place in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

Fighters never quit, quitters never fight!
