Default UFC 138: Leben vs. Munoz

UFC 138: Leben vs. Munoz Will Be Five-Round Fight in England

The UFC is going back to the United Kingdom in 2011 after all.

UFC 138 will be held on Nov. 5 at the LG Arena in Birmingham, England, the organization announced via Twitter on Tuesday.

No official word just yet on where the fight will air in the United States, but reports have indicated it will air on Spike TV via tape delay.

The card will be headlined by Chris Leben vs. Mark Munoz, and according to a UFC official, it will mark the first five-round non-title fight main event in UFC history.

UFC 89, headlined by Chris Leben vs. Michael Bisping, was last event to be held in Birmingham. That card took place at the National Indoor Arena. The UFC's last show in England was UFC 120, which took place in October 2010.

Munoz (11-2) has won his last three fights in a row. He most recently defeated Demian Maia at UFC 131 in June.

Leben (26-7) has won four of his last five fights, most recently knocking out Wanderlei Silva at UFC 132 earlier this month.

The entire fight card is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

De UK krijgt nooit grote headliners omdat Amerikanen geen PPV's kopen ivm tijdverschil.

    UFC 89: Bisping vs Leben
    UFC 95: Sanchez vs Stevenson
    UFC 105: Couture vs Vera
    UFC 120: Bisping vs Akiyama

Dan is deze mainevent zo slecht nog niet.

Hopelijk slaat Leben hem KO maar ik denk Munoz 4rnd TKO

Alves vs. Abedi, Pickett vs. Barao Added to UFC 138

Two more fights have been added to UFC 138, which was officially announced Tuesday for Nov. 5 in Birmingham, England.

England's Brad Pickett will meet Renan Barao in a bantamweight fight, according to The Daily Telegraph, while Thiago Alves will welcome newcomer Papy Abedi in welterweight action, according to the UFC's UK Twitter account.

Alves (18-8) will look to bounce back from his most recent loss to Rick Story at UFC 130. The former welterweight title contender has lost three of his last four fights.

The 33-year-old Abedi, who holds black belt in judo, enters his Octagon debut with a perfect 8-0 record, finishing all bout one of his opponents. Since making his MMA debut in 2006, the native of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, has fought in local shows around Europe. He now resides in Sweden.

Pickett (20-5) will be making his UFC debut after going 3-1 in WEC. "One Punch" was scheduled to fight Miguel Torres at UFC 130 but an injury forced him out of the bout.

Barao (26-1, 1 NC) is riding a 26-fight winning streak. The Nova Uniao product went 2-0 in WEC and then beat Cole Escovedo in his UFC debut in May.

UFC 138, which will air via same-day tape delay in the United States on Spike TV, takes place at the LG Arena in Birmingham, England. The main event features Chris Leben vs. Mark Munoz in the UFC's first five-round non-title fight main event.

Michihiro Omigawa Gets Another Fight: Jason Young at UFC 138

Fighters who go 0-4 in the UFC don't often get a fifth shot in the Octagon, but Michihiro Omigawa will.

Omigawa, the featherweight who went on a tear in Japan in 2009 and 2010 but has been much less successful in the UFC, is set to take on Jason Young at UFC 138 on November 5 in Birmingham, England. The fight was first reported by Fighters Only and later confirmed by the UFC's UK Twitter account.

It's been a rocky road in the UFC for Omigawa, who made his Octagon debut at UFC 76 in 2007, losing a unanimous decision to Matt Wiman. He then returned to the Octagon at UFC Fight Night 12 in 2008, lost a unanimous decision to Thiago Tavares, and was released by the promotion.

But after returning home to Japan and signing with Sengoku in 2009, Omigawa looked like a completely different fighter: He went 8-1 over an 18-month stretch and earned recognition as one of the best featherweights in the world.

And then Omigawa returned to the UFC and struggled again. Chad Mendes out-wrestled him for 15 minutes en route to an easy unanimous decision win at UFC 126 in February, and Darren Elkins beat him by unanimous decision at UFC 131 in June. The decision with Elkins was controversial, however, and that may be why the UFC has decided to give Omigawa one more shot.

The British Young will have the home crowd on his side at UFC 138, and if he wins it will be the biggest victory of his young career. And if Young wins, it likely spells the end of Omigawa in the Octagon.

UFC 138 to Air Free on Spike TV

UFC 138 will air on same-day tape-delay with a three-hour time slot starting at 8 p.m. ET, Spike TV announced Monday morning.

The event, taking place Nov. 5 from the LG Arena in Birmingham, England, features middleweight Chris Leben taking on Mark Munoz in the UFC's first five-round, non-title fight.

The other bouts confirmed for the televised card are bantamweights Brad Pickett vs. Renan Barao and lightweights Paul Taylor vs. Anthony Njokuani. Additional bouts will be announced for the main card.

The last time Spike TV aired a full UFC event on the same day was UFC 120 last October, which was also the most recent time the UFC promoted a show in the U.K.

The current UFC 138 card looks like this:

    Spike TV Bouts
    Chris Leben vs. Mark Munoz
    Brad Pickett vs. Renan Barao
    Paul Taylor vs. Anthony Njokuani

    Other Planned Bouts
    Thiago Alves vs. Papy Abedi
    John Hathaway vs. Pascal Krauss
    Michihiro Omigawa vs. Jason Young

Bantamweights Chris Cariaso, Newcomer Vaughan Lee Added to UFC 138

British fighter Vaughan Lee is the latest addition to the UFC's bantamweight roster, and he'll be welcomed to the promotion by Chris Cariaso at UFC 138 in November.

The UFC made Lee's signing official on Wednesday, and on Thursday announced the fight with Cariaso. The fight is expected to be part of the preliminary card for the show in Birmingham, England.

Fight bookings for UFC 138 have come fast and furious since the event was announced 10 days ago, including a headliner between middleweight contenders Chris Leben and Mark Munoz.

Lee (11-6-1) has not lost in more than two years, going 4-0-1 since his last setback. A first-round TKO of Marlon Jones at a Sprawl 'N Brawl event in Birmingham earlier this month appears to be the feather in his cap that put him into the UFC. His last four wins before that were by submission, and 10 of his 11 career wins have come by stoppage.

UFC 138 will be a hometown fight for the 28-year-old Lee, who does his MMA work at the Ultimate Training Centre facility in Birmingham. His MMA career has been a streaky one – three straight losses to open his career were followed by a six-fight winning streak, which was snapped by a TKO loss in August 2007 to current fellow UFC bantamweight Brad Pickett.

Cariaso (11-3, 1-1 UFC) will be looking to get back in the win column after a close split decision loss to Michael McDonald at UFC 130 in May. Cariaso was expected to face Norifumi Yamamoto at that event, but an injury forced "Kid" off the card a month before the fight. After going 1-1 in the WEC in 2010 before the merger, Cariaso won his UFC debut at the Fight for the Troops 2 show in January with a unanimous decision over Will Campuzano.

UFC 138 will be the promotion's first visit to the U.K. in 2011. Its last stop in England was at last October's UFC 120 in London, and this card ensures the UFC will have made at least one visit to England each year since 2007.

Aside from headliners Leben and Munoz, announced fights include a welterweight bout between former title challenger Thiago Alves and newcomer Papy Abedi; a lightweight fight between England's Paul Taylor and Anthony Njokuani; and a bantamweight bout between Pickett and Renan Barao. Of the nine fights that have been confirmed by the UFC, seven feature British fighters.

UFC 138 is expected to take place Nov. 5 at the LG Arena in Birmingham and will air on Spike TV on a tape-delayed basis.

Ik vind het wel jammer dat het over 5 rondes gaat. In de praktijk zijn ze na 3 rondes al helemaal kapot dus die laatste 2 voegen in mijn optiek weinig toe. Of zie ik het dan helemaal verkeerd ?

Matt Brown Replaces Pascal Krauss Versus John Hathaway at UFC 138

Welterweight Matt Brown has agreed to face John Hathaway at UFC 138 after the Brit's original opponent, Pascal Krauss, recently pulled out of the fight due to a shoulder injury, MMA Fighting confirmed with sources close to the event.

UFC 138, headlined by Chris Leben vs. Mark Munoz, takes place Nov. 5 at the LG Arena in Birmingham, England.

Hathaway (15-1) defeated Kris McCray at UFC Fight Night 24 in March to get back on track after suffering the first loss of his career against Mike Pyle at UFC 120 last October.

Brown (12-10) recently snapped a three-fight losing streak when he defeated John Howard at UFC Live on Versus 4. The former TUF cast member is 5-4 in the UFC.

Also scheduled for the UFC's return to England is Brad Pickett vs. Renan Barao and Thiago Alves vs. newcomer Papy Abedi.

UFC 138 Prelims to Air Live on Facebook Despite Tape-Delayed Main Card

UFC 138 will air via tape delay on Spike TV in the United States, however, the prelims will air live on Facebook earlier in the day, according to UFC officials.

The event, which will take place on Saturday night from LG Arena in Birmingham, England, will mark the UFC's return to England for the first time since UFC 120 in Oct. 2010.

Interestingly enough, the main card will air live in every country except the United States. For example, Canadian fans will be able to watch Mark Munoz vs. Chris Leben live on Rogers Sportsnet, while UK fans can watch it on ESPN UK. Making matters even more confusing is the fact that Bellator, which is now owned by Viacom, the parent company of Spike, isn't airing their weekly event Saturday night on sister station MTV2 to avoid competing against a tape delayed Spike event, however, if Spike would have decided to air UFC 138 live on Saturday afternoon in the United States, they could have avoided that problem altogether.

The six-bout undercard will kick off at 5:30 p.m. GMT/ 12:30 p.m. ET/ 9:30 a.m. PT. The five-bout main card, headlined by Munoz vs. Leben, will air on Spike beginning at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Yes, the tape delayed broadcast will be even more tape delayed on the West Coast.

Below is a look at the full card:

    Main card:
    Chris Leben vs. Mark Munoz
    Renan Barao vs. Brad Pickett
    Papy Abedi vs. Thiago Alves
    Terry Etim vs. Edward Faaloloto
    Anthony Njokuani vs. Paul Taylor

    Facebook undercard:
    Cyrille Diabate vs. Anthony Perosh
    Justin Edwards vs. John Maguire
    Michihiro Omigawa vs. Jason Young
Rob Broughton vs. Philip De Fries
    Chris Cope vs. Che Mills
    Chris Cariaso vs. Vaughan Lee
