Default UFC on Versus 6 (Pat Barry vs. Stefan Struve)

Two Fights Booked for New UFC on Versus 6 Event; Washington, D.C. Likely Location

The UFC will fulfill its four-event deal with the Versus cable station in October with UFC on Versus 6.

The promotion made the announcement Saturday night, though the date and location for the event has not yet been announced. The UFC said that information will be released "in the coming weeks." But Heavy.com on Saturday reported the event will take place Oct. 1 in Washington, D.C.

And to get the card started, the promotion made a pair of fight announcements for the show at the same time. Welterweights Charlie Brenneman and Anthony Johnson will meet, and lightweights Mac Danzig and Matt Wiman will also fight in a long-awaited rematch.

Brenneman (14-2, 3-1 UFC) is coming off the biggest win of his career, a major upset of Rick Story in the co-main event of UFC on Versus 4 in Pittsburgh last month. Brenneman took the fight on short notice when Nate Marquardt was ruled out, and he took advantage with a unanimous decision win. Story was a more than 5-to-1 favorite.

Johnson (9-3, 6-3 UFC) was originally scheduled to face Marquardt last month, but had to pull out with an injury. Story filled in for him. Johnson has won four of his last five fights, but has fought just once since a November 2009 loss to Josh Koscheck. In March, he beat Dan Hardy by unanimous decision.

Danzig (20-8-1, 4-4 UFC), the Season 6 winner of "The Ultimate Fighter," returns for the first time since a December Knockout of the Night win over Joe Stevenson in Montreal. He was scheduled to face Donald Cerrone at UFC 131, but pulled out with an injury.

Wiman (13-6, 7-4 UFC) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Dennis Siver at UFC 132 earlier this month. After the decision was announced – 29-28 on all three judges' cards for Siver – Wiman stormed out of the cage. The loss ended a three-fight winning streak for the three-time Fight of the Night bonus winner, including his controversial win over Danzig at UFC 115.

At UFC 115 in Vancouver in June 2010, Wiman caught Danzig in a guillotine. Referee Yves Lavigne, believing Danzig was out, stopped the fight – but Danzig popped up immediately to protest, clearly not out. Danzig explained to Joe Rogan after the fight that he wasn't out, but didn't hold any ill will toward Lavigne. The two were scheduled to rematch at UFC Fight Night 22, but a Danzig injury forced him out. Wiman was later forced off the same card with an injury.

UFC on Versus 6 will be the promotion's fourth event on the cable station in 2011. The two previous "UFC Live" cards this year have been in Louisville and Pittsburgh. Next month, UFC on Versus 5 takes place in Milwaukee. Like all three of those cities, the UFC will be making its debut in Washington, the nation's capital.

Michael Johnson vs. Paul Sass Set for UFC on Versus 6

The Ultimate Fighter 12 lightweight runner-up Michael Johnson will make his third trip inside the Octagon when he meets British youngster Paul Sass at UFC on Versus 6, the UFC announced Thursday on its UK Twitter.

The UFC Live event is expected to take place Oct. 1 at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C.

Despite being Georges St. Pierre's first pick, Johnson (9-5) fell short of becoming "The Ultimate Fighter" in the finals last December against Jonathan Brookins. Johnson then returned last month, stopping Edward Faaloloto in the first round with punches at UFC on Versus 4.

The undefeated 22-year-old Sass (11-0) has not competed since his UFC debut last October at UFC 120 against Mark Holst. The contest earned Sass Submission of the Night honors with an impressive triangle choke, dubbed the "Sassangle," to his displeasure.

Charlie Brenneman vs. Anthony Johnson and Mac Danzig vs. Matt Wiman are two other bouts currently slated for the card.

Default Pat Barry vs. Stefan Struve added to UFC on Versus 6 lineup

    War Struve!

The UFC's tallest heavyweight has a date with the promotion's shortest one.

UFC officials today announced that verbal agreements are in place for 6-foot-11 Stefan Struve (21-5 MMA, 5-3 UFC) to meet 5-foot-11 Pat Barry (6-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) at UFC on Versus 6.

UFC on Versus 6 takes place Oct. 1 at Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. The evening's main card airs on Versus.

Struve vs. Barry likely will be part of the broadcast.

As officials previously announced, UFC on Versus 6 features a rare title fight on free TV; bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz puts his belt on the line against fast-rising Demetrious Johnson.

Struve fights for the first time since a UFC 130 knockout loss to Travis Browne. The first-round loss came after the well-rounded Dutch fighter's string of five wins in six fights, which included stoppage victories over the likes of Sean McCorkle, Christian Morecraft and Chase Gormley. His only other UFC losses have come to No. 1 heavyweight contender Junior Dos Santos and "The Ultimate Fighter 10" champion Roy Nelson.

Barry, meanwhile, fights for the first time since a stunning loss to Cheick Kongo in the UFC on Versus 4 headliner. Barry thoroughly battered his towering opponent and nearly prompted a TKO stoppage on multiple occasions in the June fight. But a dazed and wobbly Kongo connected on two stiff rights in the first round to earn the unthinkable comeback victory.

Barry now has alternated between wins and losses for his entire six-fight UFC career.

2 meter 11 vs 1 meter 80.

I'd love to see Barry get a win, following the devastating loss against Kongo.

I think Struve is a great talent, though!

Dit wordt lastig voor Struve. In de stand up slaat Barry hem zeker ko.

Interview zal in september plaatsvinden.
