    Feijao Knocks Out Yoel Romero

Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante stepped in the cage on Saturday night for the first time since losing the Strikeforce light heavyweight title in March, and he did it in style with a knockout win over Yoel Romero.

The fight got off to a dull start, but Feijao's finish was fantastic, with a brutal barrage of punches that included a spinning back fist, and one final punch on the ground after knocking Romero down, which knocked Romero out.

Romero was an Olympic wrestling silver medalist who built up a 4-0 MMA record fighting in small promotions, and his step toward the big time against Feijao was highly anticipated among MMA fans who knew Romero's pedigree. But Romero wasn't impressive: He turned in a dull first round and only briefly came alive in the second, battering Feijao with punches for a couple of exchanges before Feijao took control.

Feijao improved his record to 11-3, and he said afterward that he wants to test himself against the best. Romero is a talented athlete, but he's not on Feijao's level as a fighter, and this was a one-sided fight. Feijao is a solid light heavyweight, and he showed on Saturday night that he'll dominate a relative novice.

Jordan Mein Beats Evangelista 'Cyborg' Santos With Vicious Elbows

Jordan Mein unleashed a brutal elbow assault on Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos Saturday night, winning a third-round TKO in an impressive striking display.

The fight took place entirely on the feet, including at the end when Mein began pounding on Cyborg with elbows to the face. Although Cyborg didn't go down, he wasn't defending himself, and the referee made the right call to step in and stop the fight.

Mein said afterward that he considered it the biggest win of his professional MMA career.

"Very, very satisfying -- I'm happy that I finished the fight. That's what I'm going for every time and it came true," Mein said. "He was kicking me hard and my legs were sore so I stayed in the pocked and just kept picking away. I hit him with a nice body shot, that hurt him, and then the elbows to finish him."

Mein is only 21 years old and already has a 23-7 professional MMA record. He's already good and only going to get better.

Unfortunately, the 33-year-old Cyborg has now lost two in a row and four of his last six, and he's starting to show signs of aging. Cyborg has been through some tough battles in his MMA career, and Mein just put him through another one.

King Mo Knocks Out Roger Gracie

Muhammad "King Mo" Lawal returned to the Strikeforce cage with a spectacular victory on Saturday night, winning a first-round knockout of Roger Gracie.

King Mo is an excellent wrestler, and Gracie is arguably the best Brazilian jiu jitsu practitioner in the world, but this fight wasn't fought on the ground at all. Instead, it was just a stand-up battle between two guys who were a little out of their elements. But after four and a half minutes without a lot of damage being done by either man, Lawal did what he had to do, landing a hard overhand right to Gracie's ear and knocking him to the canvas. With one more punch on the ground, Lawal knocked Gracie out.

"The fight felt good," Lawal said afterward. "I'm a fighter, man, I come here to fight."

The victory improved Lawal's professional record to 8-1, and showed that he's back from a knee injury that has kept him out of the cage for more than a year. It's good to see King Mo back in action, and Lawal said he'd like another shot at Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante, who beat him in his last fight.

For Gracie, who falls to 4-1, it's hard to see what happens from here. Gracie is a great grappler, but his stand-up skills are still rudimentary, and after that vicious knockout, he may be better suited to staying in grappling, where you can't get punched in the face.

Luke Rockhold Upsets Jacare for Strikeforce Middleweight Title

Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza and Luke Rockhold battled for 25 minutes for the Strikeforce middleweight title on Saturday night, and in the end the judges awarded the hard-fought battle to Rockhold, making him the new middleweight champion.

Jacare was a heavy favorite, but Rockhold fought toe-to-toe with him for five rounds, and in the end all three judges agreed that Rockhold had won it, with one judge scoring it 50-45 and two others scoring it 48-47.

An emotional Rockhold tried his best to thank all his coaches, training partners and sponsors afterward.

"It's amazing," Rockhold said through tears. "I couldn't do it without everybody -- so many people to thank, so many."

Rockhold was extremely inexperienced going into the fight, with only eight fights on his record, all eight of which were finished in the first round. In fact, Rockhold's 25 minutes in the cage with Jacare represented more fighting time than he had in his entire MMA career prior to Saturday night.

"I won the fight in five rounds," Rockhold said. "I had never been out of the first round."

The fight was almost entirely standing up, with the two of them on the ground for only about half a round of the five-round affair. That played against the strengths of Jacare, a world-class Brazilian jiu jitsu specialist. Rockhold fought the fight he wanted to fight, and he ended it a champion.

Daniel Cormier Knocks Out Bigfoot Silva

In a shocking upset in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, Daniel Cormier absolutely dominated Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva, battering Silva's face with hard punches and eventually knocking him out.

Most people thought that for Cormier to have any chance, he'd need to use his Olympic-caliber wrestler skills to control Silva with takedowns. Instead, Cormier did it all with striking: Cormier dropped Silva with a big overhand right in the first minute of the first round, and after he did that he let Silva get back up, feeling more confident in his ability to beat Silva on his feet than on the ground.

Cormier continued to show off power punching throughout the round, and Silva had no answer. Eventually Cormier leveled Silva with another hard punch and then landed one more punch on the ground to knock Silva out. The whole fight lasted just 3 minutes, 56 seconds.

"It was great," Cormier said afterward. "I fought one of the Top 5 heavyweights in the world and knocked him out. Give me some respect now."

Everyone has to respect Cormier now: He's 9-0 in his MMA career, and he's now earned by far the biggest win of his life. Daniel Cormier isn't just a wrestler. He's a complete mixed martial artist.

    Josh Barnett Submits Sergei Kharitonov

Josh Barnett made short work of Sergei Kharitonov in Saturday night's Strikeforce main event, forcing him to tap out to an arm-triangle choke in the first round and advancing to the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix final.

Barnett ate a couple of hard shots from Kharitonov in the first minute of the first round, and he quickly decided to go for a takedown, which he was able to secure without much trouble, landing in full mount. From there Barnett simply bided his time, landing punches and waiting for Kharitonov to give him an opening until he was able to sink in the choke that he wanted. Once the arm triangle was in, Kharitonov tapped quickly.

The victory was a big one for Barnett, who improves his professional MMA record to 31-5. Barnett's MMA career once seemed to be on the rocks, as multiple positive steroid tests had American promoters and state athletic commissions wary of him. But now Barnett, a former UFC heavyweight champion, is getting close to a return to the top.

Up next for Barnett is the Heavyweight Grand Prix final with Daniel Cormier, the former Olympic wrestler who also advanced to the Grand Prix final on Saturday night.

"I think I'm going to take down an Olympian," Barnett said when asked about Cormier. "I think Cormier is a great opponent. He's a guy who has competed at the highest level of athletics and I'm going to have to train really hard for him."

Cormier vs. Barnett should be a great fight. Both men took big steps forward in the heavyweight division on Saturday night.

Echt genoten.
