5 Reasons Rashad Evans Will Beat Jon Jones

eady or not, it’s almost time for Jon Jones to face the toughest test of his career.

Fights with Shogun Rua and Rampage Jackson were dangerous for the phenom, but no one poses as many tests for Jones as Rashad Evans.

Fans are already looking past Evans to a fight with Anderson Silva or a potential superfight against a top-tier heavyweight, but Jones knows better than anyone else that Evans will likely push him in ways that have never been done before. Rashad has the skill set to take out ‘Bones,’ and here are five reasons why he will do it.

1. ones has never fought someone with half the hand speed that Rashad possesses, which is going to be a huge reason that Rashad will win this fight.

Jones left himself open to some shots against Rampage, but Jackson just wasn’t quite quick enough to pull the trigger and Jones made it through the bout unscathed.

Rashad will be able to connect with Jones regularly and it won’t surprise me if he knocks him down once or twice during the fight.

Jones has an array of impressive strikes and his unorthodox elbows have finished plenty of fights, but he has yet to prove that he has that one-punch knockout power that can end a fight in an instant.

Rashad has that in abundance, as evidenced by his fights with Chuck Liddell and Forrest Griffin, and that will cause a problem when the fight is on the feet. Jones will have to constantly be aware of Rashad’s ability to take him out, while Rashad can focus on not getting hit by combinations that will hurt him.

Jones has had a huge advantage in the grappling department against every opponent he’s fought, and even though Rampage was able to stuff a couple takedowns, Jones still ended the fight on the mat.

When he gets in there against Rashad, his main asset will be neutralized by an equally good wrestler. Jones will still have the advantage as far as submissions go, but it will be incredibly difficult for him to drag Evans to the mat in the first place.

This fight was originally going to take place at UFC 133 back in August, but Jones pulled out of the fight citing a need to have surgery on his hand.

Shortly after the fight was cancelled, Jones revealed that he didn’t need the surgery, but Rashad had already signed to fight a new opponent, leading to speculation that Jones had purposely faked an injury to get out of the fight.

Whether this is true or not, it gives Rashad a distinct mental edge going into the fight, since Jones has to deny these rumors and Rashad can use this to get into his head.

5. Evans has one distinct advantage in this fight, and that is his experience dealing with the enigma that is Jones.

While training with Jones at Greg Jackson’s camp, Rashad was able to see exactly how difficult it is to try and fight through Jones’ reach, which has been a major factor in all of his UFC wins.

Throw in his potential to predict when Jones will throw one of his crazy strikes and it will make it hard for Jonny to hit Rashad with something unexpected.

Geef Rashad ook weinig kans... Ik zie Jones gezien zijn lengte binnen 1,5 jaar op HW vechten... Stel je voor wat voor vette gevechten je dan weer kan maken!

Rashad, overigens ook naar mijn mening een walgelijke arrogante kwast, heeft een glazen kin. En die reach van Jones is wel een erg groot voordeel.

Gisteren maakte Rashad bij zijn opwachting in de octagon na het het gevecht van Jones tegen Jackson een erg geïntimideerde indruk. Ergens wel logisch na het overtuigende optreden van Jones.

Rashad heeft alleen een punchers chance. Hij is nergens beter in. Misschien is ie iets sneller, maar Jones laat hem niet dichtbij komen.

Ik was aangenaam verrast door rashad tegen tito. Als hij gewoon zijn eigen partij vecht ipv jones zijn strategie te volgen dan geef ik hem wel een kans.

Ik vind het bizar hoe bijna iedereen Rashad zo ontzettend onderschat hier. De man is super atletisch en zeer intelligent. Tevens is het echt een trainingsbeest. Als iemand een kans heeft is Rashad hij het wel.

De man is notabene de mentor geweest van Jones. Dus als iemand hem door en door kent en er zijn voordeel mee kan doen dan is het Rashad.

Neem niet weg dat ik ook Jones het voordeel geef maar ik vind dat Rashad wel een stuk meer credits verdient dan hij hier krijgt.

Tevens vind ik Rashad echt veel sympathieker geworden de laatste jaren.

Toen Rashad zaterdag in de octagon kwam dacht ik eerst het de directeur van de Rabobank was.

Rashad zie ik ook niet snel winnen dmv minder reach. Maargoed wie moet het dan doen in de Light Heavyweight divisie? Lyoto staat trouwens met zijn doorgezakte karate stand te kwetsbaar als Jones van die trappen naar de knieschijf maakt.

Misschien Vitor Belfort als ie een gewichtsklasse omhoog gaat.

Ik zie trouwens liever Jon Jones vs Anderson Silva, dan GSP tegen Silva.

Lyoto vecht altijd aan de buitenkant, maar met het reach advantage van JJ zal dat geen goede strategie zijn.
