Diaz-GSP is nu juist nog beter geworden. Diaz heeft bewezen dat hij echt in de UFC hoort, en GSP doet alsof hij gemotiveerd is, hopelijk wil hij weer eens wat bewijzen.

benieuwd tegen wie condit trouwens gaat vechten in een title eliminator gevecht... ik ben nog niet overtuigd van condit en vele toppers zijn al gebooked de komende tijd, ellenberger vecht sanchez, fitch vecht hendricks,MacDonald moet tegen ebersole en Kampmann tegen story... dus wie blijven er nog over? Shields,Koscheck en Johnson.... shields gaat denk ik weer terug naar MW... Koscheck zal Dana niet willen... want dan had hij dat gisteren wel gedaan aangezien josh dan nog had aangeboden(blijkbaar is hij bang dat josh wint van carlos, en dan heb je ook niks meer aan hem.. en GSP vs Josh 2 zit niemand op te wachten, dus alleen maar risico). dan is Johnson de meest logische kanidaat. of siyar krijgt de kans van zijn leven(*hoopmodus*)

Emotional BJ Penn Calls It Quits After UFC 137 Loss to Nick Diaz

LAS VEGAS -- BJ Penn walked into the octagon with emotion in his eyes, and walked away leaving some of his fans with tears in theirs. The longtime MMA legend, just 32 years old, dropped a unanimous decision in a spirited scrap with Nick Diaz, and then shocked the sold-out crowd at the Mandalay Bay Events Center with the surprising announcement that he had just fought for the last time.

Penn won the first round on all three judges scorecards before Diaz seized momentum in the second with his unrelenting pace and punishing body shots. Penn appeared to be on wobbly legs for the second half of the round and Diaz went for the finish, but Penn's chin and heart kept him on his feet. Overall in the round, Diaz landed 127 strikes, according to FightMetric.

Though Penn survived the assault, he had little left to combat Diaz's attack. The Stockton, Calif. native was unrelenting in pummeling the Hawaiian, frequently switching stances and landing at a high rate. Though he couldn't finish him, the outcome was obvious even before cage announcer Bruce Buffer read off the judges' scores, which were 29-28, 29-27, 29-28.

By the end, Penn's face was bloodied and battered.

"That's probably the last time you're ever going to see me," Penn said afterward. "I can't keep doing this."

Penn didn't attend the post-fight press conference, with his injuries requiring a trip to the hospital.

Diaz, known for his high-pressure pace, out-landed Penn 257 to 107 over the course of the 15-minute fight, according to FightMetric.

"In the 10 years we've seen BJ perform, we've never seen him busted up like that," UFC president Dana White said. "Even on bottom getting smashed by [Matt] Hughes and Georges St-Pierre. He doesn't cut, he doesn't bleed, he doesn't swell up. It's like he's got leather skin. He got busted up tonight. Nick Diaz is the real deal."

If it is the end for Penn, he leaves as one of the most respected mixed martial artists in history, with a career that spanned a decade and bridged eras from the dark days of the sport to the current boom. He arrived on the scene as "the Prodigy" with a first-round knockout over Joey Gilbert at UFC 31, and became one of only two fighters in UFC history to win championships in multiple divisions, joining Randy Couture.

Penn is held in the highest regard by fighters for his willingness to compete at any weight class, and despite being just 5-foot-9 and around 180 pounds at his natural weight, he fought from lightweight all the way up to heavyweight.

Penn's signature win may be his UFC 46 welterweight championship victory over Matt Hughes, who had been considered an unbeatable champion after five successful title defenses over a two-year span. But after that win, Penn left the UFC in a contract dispute, only returning two years later. By then, the promotion had begun to gain momentum with The Ultimate Fighter's success, and Penn's return soon jump-started the lightweight division when he captured the belt in 2008. He defended it three times before losing to Frankie Edgar in April 2010.

Penn would win only one more time in his career, knocking out old rival Hughes in just 21 seconds last November. In his last five fights, he was 1-3-1, though the draw came against Jon Fitch, who was considered by most to be the No. 2 welterweight in the world, and two of the losses came to current champ Edgar.

Penn said he simply could not put his family through this pain anymore, adding that he had a second child on the way. Of course, given his snap decision and relatively young age, many believe Penn will find his way back to the cage one more time.

Given the beating he took, the UFC will likely give him some time to spend with his family before checking his future status, and whether his mind is truly made up.

"BJ's a warrior, man" White said. "Like I said, what happened to him tonight, it's never happened to him in his entire career. What he's thinking tonight, he might not think eight weeks from now. Who knows? It might be or it might not be. That's up to him."

Hoewel ik voor GSP ben, zou ik niet weten hoe hij van Diaz zou moeten winnen.

Verder vond ik t matige UFC.
Main event was wel echt top!

Het kan natuurlijk ook prima zijn dat ze er wat in gaan husselen. Dus Ellenberger tegen Condit en Sanchez tegen Koscheck of iets dergelijks.

Diaz heeft het knap gedaan tegen BJ. BJ z'n gameplan was goed dat zag je in het begin maar met de altijd aanwezige cardio issues van BJ was het lastig om z'n gameplan 3 rondes lang uit te voeren. Eenmaal merkt Diaz dat je moe begint te worden dan begint hij te plukken met die vreemde stoten van hem.
Gsp is veel bewegelijker en z'n stand up is anders. Daarbij wordt hij niet zomaar moe. Dat Diaz hem dan uit de tent gaat lokken door te zeggen dat hij weg loopt van het gevecht boeit GSP niets. Die wacht z'n moment af. Enige waar hij voor moet oppassen is dat hij bij een van z'n takedowns niet opeens in een sub valt. Daarbij nog staat Diaz heerlijk voor een paar lekker lowkicks.
Condit is een beetje Frankie Edgar verhaal. Iedereen onderschat hem en niemand ziet hem als een Champ maar hij is gevaarlijk voor elke tegenstander.

pfff... condit mag de veters niet eens strikken van edgar, edgar is een echte champ!! versloeg de man die lang in het bezit was van de belt 2x en ook zijn comebacks tegen maynard waren fenomenaal. condit daarintegen... nou hij zit nu anderhalf jaar in de UFC... verloor van kampmann en won nipt van ellenberger, een jonge en onervaren MacDonald,Hardy... maar ja die gaat tegen iedereen KO en een verdwaalde koreaan. allemaal leuk en aardig maar op ellenberger na zit er geen een top10 vechter bij. en ellenberger was toen nog niet eens top10! laat condit lekkker eerst iemand van het rijtje BJ,Fitch,Koscheck,Shields en/of diaz winnen voordat hij al meteen een titleshot krijgt. hij staat notabene maar 4-1 in de UFC... als je kijkt naar bv. Fitch die staat 13-1 tegen dezelfde kwaliteit tegenstanders .....

UFC 137 Fighter Salaries: Nick Diaz, BJ Penn Lead $1 Million-Plus Payroll

LAS VEGAS – The Nevada State Athletic Commission on Monday released the salary figures for UFC 137, which took place Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz, who vacated his belt in that promotion to rejoin the UFC to challenge for Georges St-Pierre's 170-pound title, led all fighters with a $200,000 payday. His opponent in the main event, former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion BJ Penn, earned $150,000 in the loss.

Following the fight, which Diaz won by unanimous decision, Penn told Joe Rogan his intention is to retire from the sport. Diaz, though, was given an immediate title shot against St-Pierre – a title shot he was scheduled to have at UFC 137 before UFC president Dana White pulled him from that fight after he missed two press conferences to promote the event.

Additionally, Diaz and Penn each earned another $75,000 for winning the Fight of the Night bonus award.

Co-main event heavyweight Cheick Kongo was the third highest paid fighter on the card. After his $70,000 win bonus, he made $140,000. And Brandon Vera, fighting for the first time since a January loss to Thiago Silva that was overturned to a no contest when Silva tested positive for banned substances, made $120,000 for his win over Eliot Marshall.

Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic alluded all week that his fight against Roy Nelson may be his last one. And after his third-round TKO loss, Cro Cop told Rogan that would be his last fight. He earned $75,000 in the loss.

diaz verdient 275 duizend voor dit gevecht (geld van sponsoren en trainingskosten niet berekend) en dan loopt ie na afloop tijdens de press conference te zeiken over dat ie geen fatsoenlijk huis kan kopen etc etc.... het enige wat die gozer deed tijdens de press conference na afloop was zeiken en klagen terwijl veel mensen zulke bedragen in jaren niet eens verdienen laat staan op een avond.

dit is ook waarom ik veel respect heb voor diaz als vechter maar niet als persoon. hij is altijd negatief en loopt altijd te klagen terwijl hij in mijn ogen weinig heeft om over te klagen... maarja dat ben ik

Datsoort zaken staan vast in je contract. Sommige vechters krijgen een bedrag om te vechten een een bedrag om te winnen... En sommige vechters krijgen een bedrag ongeacht winst of verlies

Ik denk dat Diaz voor zichzelf de vergelijking maakt met het boksen. Daar schijnt een topper meer ye verdienen. En Diaz is natuurlijk een kijkcijferkanon en maakt er altijd een show van. Daarnaast weet ook hij dat zijn carrière in de octagon eindig is. Hij zal wel een gevulde bankrekening willen hebben voordat hij met pensioen gaat. Diaz is niet zielig, hij verdient best goed. Maar dit soort gasten hebben ook wel hun kosten hoor. Moet je voor de lol die thread van een tijdje geleden lezen over de omvang van die kosten. Ik schrok er wel van...
