Default UFC on FOX 2: Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis

The UFC's second outing on FOX will land in Chicago, UFC president Dana White confirmed to MMA Fighting on Thursday.

In an interview with Ariel Helwani, White said that the event will take place on January 28. Although he didn't specify the venue, it is expected to take place at the United Center.

White said he is expecting to put together a four-fight main card, and has several fights in mind, but would not divulge any details until speaking with his FOX partners on Monday. He said that he is not expecting to include a championship fight on the card.

The event will mark the UFC's first time in Illinois since UFC 90 in October 2008.

The addition means that the promotion will produce four events in four weeks spanning from January 14 to February 4. In addition to the UFC on FOX show, the stretch includes UFC 142 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, UFC on FX in Nashville, and UFC 143 in Las Vegas.

The UFC's first foray on to network television was last Saturday, with an event that drew an average of 5.7 million viewers and a peak of 8.8 million to watch Junior dos Santos knock out Cain Velasquez to capture the heavyweight championship.

Phill davis vs Rashad Evans opnieuw proberen misschien?

Default UFC on FOX 2 - January 28 - Sonnen vs Munoz & Sanchez vs Ellenberger

The card for UFC on FOX 2 set for January 28th is starting to come together. MMAInteviews first reported and Fight Cove was able to independently confirm, former middleweight title challenger Chael Sonnen will take on Mark Munoz for the right to face middleweight champion Anderson Silva in the headliner of the promotions second network TV event.

In another feature bout, top welterweight contenders Jake Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez will to square off in a fight that could give the winner a UFC title shot.

Sonnen (26-11-1) last fought at UFC 136 in October, defeating Brian Stann by submission in the second round. It was Sonnen’s first fight after over one year away from the octagon due to suspension. It appears he will opt to stay active instead of waiting to fight middleweight champion Anderson Silva, who is likely sidelined until mid-2012 due to injury. Munoz (12-2) scored the biggest victory of his career at UFC 138 earlier this month, stopping Chris Leben with a second round TKO. “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” respectfully requested an opportunity to fight for the UFC middleweight championship after he defeated Leben, but it seems he will have to get through Sonnen first.
It is unknown at this time if the fight between Sonnen and Munoz will be three or five round fight.
Ellenberger (26-5) has won five straight UFC fights, most recently becoming only the second man to finish former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields. The Nebraska born fighter holds a 5-1 UFC record and looks to make a case to fight for the welterweight championship against Sanchez.
Sanchez (23-4) was scheduled to face Matt Hughes at UFC 135, but a broken hand suffered three weeks before the fight forced Sanchez to withdraw. Sanchez is on a two-fight win streak, having defeated Martin Kampmann by unanimous decision in his last outing. Healthy and ready to pick up where he left off, Sanchez will bring his relentless style to the octagon once again.

Default Jon Olav Einemo vs. Mike Russow at UFC on FOX 2

Ik voel een cut voor Einemo aankomen. Echt no way dat hij van Russow wint.

Shortly after losing in his UFC debut in a bout that won Fight of the Night at UFC 131, John Olav Einemo was surprisingly cut from the UFC. As it turned out, Einemo was part of the fallout from an ongoing business issue between his Golden Glory management team and the UFC.

Now, it appears a resolution has been struck, as Einemo is back with the promotion and will take on Mike Russow as part of the upcoming UFC on FOX 2 card on January 28, MMA Fighting has learned.

Sources confirmed that both sides have verbally agreed to the bout.

Einemo (6-2) faced Dave Herman at UFC 131, and engaged in a hard-fought battle before falling in a second-round TKO. The fight had been his first MMA bout in over four years. But even after the spirited scrap, he was one of several Golden Glory fighters -- including Alistair Overeem and Marloes Coenen to be dropped by Zuffa.

UFC president Dana White later said the issue stemmed from Golden Glory's management practice of having promoters pay them directly instead of the fighters.

"We don't work that way," White said then. "It's not the way we do business. It's not how it works in the United States with the athletic commissions. You don't pay the managers and the managers pay the fighters. You pay the fighters and the fighters pay the managers."

It remains unclear how the issue was resolved, and whether Einemo -- like Overeem -- parted ways with Golden Glory or found a way to work within the UFC framework.

Meanwhile, Russow (14-1, 1 no contest) will be hoping to extend his impressive 10-fight win streak. In his most recent fight, Russow stopped Jon Madsen by TKO in the second round of their March 2011 encounter.

UFC on FOX 2 will take place from the United Center in Chicago.

De fightcard wordt beter en beter!

Let's try this one again ... but on a much bigger stage.

Light heavyweight contenders Rashad Evans and Phil Davis have been re-booked to square off as the headlining fight of the UFC on Fox 2 event scheduled for Jan. 28, 2012, in Chicago, Illinois.ESPN.com brought word of the pending match-up a short while ago.

The first time these two were matched up was back in August for a fight at UFC 133 in Philadelphia. That is until Davis injured his knee and Tito Ortiz stepped in on short notice. Evans ended up scoring a technical knockout win in the ensuing fight.
That victory earned him a title shot against Jon Jones, who defeated Quinton Jackson to set up what promised to be the most heavily hyped fight of the year.
Then, of course, it all unraveled ... again.

As it turned out, Evans hurt his thumb during his win over Ortiz and this forced the UFC to once again make a difficult decision. It could keep it's budding superstar light heavyweight champion on the sidelines until "Suga" got healthy or book him for a bout while Rashad healed up.
Which is exactly what they did.

But if Jones is going to be fighting Lyoto Machida on Dec. 10, surely Evans, who will be healthy by January, should get a fight in the meantime.
And that's where Phil Davis comes in.

"Mr. Wonderful" has been recovering from the knee issue that kept him out of the first scheduled booking against Evans during the summer. Now, though, he's finally healthy and raring to get back inside the Octagon.

What better way to do it than against the number one contender to the 205-pound belt?
Evans vs. Davis is reportedly set to serve as the main event of the UFC on Fox 2 fight card going down on Jan. 28, 2012, from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. Other match-ups booked for the card are Chael Sonnen vs. Mark Munoz, Jon Olav Einemo vs. Mike Russow and Demetrious Johnson vs. Eddie Wineland.

Thumbs up UFC 133 : Hoofd partij Rashad Evans vs Phil Davis

Evans won toen via TKO.

Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis Bout Set for UFC on FOX 2

A light-heavyweight match pitting former division champion Rashad Evans and rising contender Phil Davis will take place at the upcoming UFC on FOX 2 show in January, sources told MMA Fighting on Wednesday, confirming an overnight report from ESPN.

Late on Tuesday night, UFC president Dana White told MMA Fighting that he could not yet confirm the show's main event. But while the promotion has yet to announce the pairing, barring any unforeseen setbacks, it is expected to be made official within days and is likely to serve as the headliner.

Evans (16-1-1) lost out on a pair of possible title shots against current champ Jon Jones due to respective injuries to both men over the last few months. At UFC 133, he was nearly set to face Jones until a hand injury sidelined the champ. Evans was then paired with Davis, but a knee injury scuttled that fight as well.

Instead, Evans ended up facing and defeating Tito Ortiz in a second-round TKO.

Unfortunately for Evans, he injured his hand during the fight and could not take a December 10 date with Jones either, allowing Lyoto Machida to step in and fight for the belt.

If Evans wins, the UFC will once again attempt to set him up for another title shot, this time against the Jones-Machida winner.

To do so, he'll have to get past the unbeaten Davis, who has not fought since earning a unanimous decision victory over Antonio Rogerio Nogueria in March. At 9-0, Davis has cracked the top 10 of most light-heavyweight polls, but the former Penn State collegiate wrestling All-American faces a big step up in competition against Evans. His knee now healed, he's being asked to jump right into top competition.

The UFC on FOX 2 card takes place at Chicago's United Center on January 28 and is the official kickoff to the seven-year deal signed between UFC and FOX in August. A one-hour teaser event held in November drew an average of 5.7 million viewers, with 8.8 million watching Junior dos Santos capture the heavyweight title by knocking out Cain Velasquez.

Chael Sonnen vs. Mark Munoz Set for UFC on Fox 2

Chael Sonnen will have to win another fight before he can get his long-awaited rematch with Anderson Silva, because the UFC has announced that Sonnen's next fight will take place on January 28 in Chicago, when Sonnen will fight Mark Munoz in the co-main event at the second UFC on Fox event.

Sonnen had been expected to face Silva -- whom he called out after beating Brian Stann in October -- but Silva is nursing a shoulder injury and apparently won't be ready for a few months. So Sonnen vs. Munoz will determine the next No. 1 contender in the middleweight division.

The Sonnen-Munoz fight matches up two of the best wrestlers in the middleweight division; Sonnen used his wrestling to control Silva for four rounds before getting submitted in the fifth, while Munoz is a former NCAA wrestling champion who is currently riding a four-fight winning streak.

A Sonnen-Silva rematch has long been viewed as the biggest fight the UFC could book in its middleweight division, but if Munoz beats Sonnen, a Munoz-Silva fight would also be big. Munoz is 7-1 since moving down to middleweight, with the only loss coming by split decision to former top contender Yushin Okami, so Munoz would certainly be worthy of a title shot if he gets past Sonnen.

The UFC on Fox 2 card will be headlined by Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis. Other fights expected for the card include Demetrious Johnson vs. Eddie Wineland, Evan Dunham vs. Paul Sass, Jon Olav Einemo vs. Mike Russow and Cody McKenzie vs. Michael Johnson.

Jon Jones Thinks Rashad Evans Has a Suspect Chin

Jon Jones and Rashad Evans have a long history, having gone from friends and training partners to enemies and rivals, and eventually, most likely, competitors for the UFC light heavyweight title.

But a Jones-Evans title fight has already been delayed a couple times and can't happen unless both men win their upcoming fights, with Jones taking on Lyoto Machida at UFC 140 and Evans fighting Phil Davis at UFC on FOX 2. And Jones has some doubts about whether a fight with Evans is going to happen at all.

Instead, Jones said on The MMA Hour, he believes it's entirely possible that Davis will expose Evans as a fighter who has a suspect chin and can't handle a more powerful opponent.

"Rashad doesn't have a chin," Jones said. "Rashad does not have a chin, trust me."

Saying Evans doesn't have a chin wouldn't seem to mesh with Evans' career record: In 18 professional MMA fights, Evans has only been beaten once, by Lyoto Machida. It's true that Machida knocked Evans out in brutal fashion, but Evans has managed to beat a lot of guys with significant punching power, including Rampage Jackson, Chuck Liddell and Thiago Silva. However, Jones's comments may reflect what Jones has witnessed in training with Evans, as the two of them sparred plenty of times when they were both based at Greg Jackson's gym in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Jones said he expects Davis to give Evans a competitive fight, and it wouldn't surprise him if Davis is the one who earns a shot at the light heavyweight title.

"If Phil can have faith in his stand-up abilities and faith in his grappling abilities this will be a closer fight than people realize," Jones said.

But if Evans gets by that tough fight with Davis, it may finally be time for Jones and Evans to stop talking about each other, and actually fight each other.

Michael Bisping to Face Demian Maia at UFC on FOX 2

A middleweight clash between Michael Bisping and Demian Maia has been added to the UFC on FOX 2 event on Jan. 28, 2012 at the United Center in Chicago, Ill.

Bisping-Maia joins the previously announced Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis and Chael Sonnen vs. Mark Munoz matchups in what the UFC is billing a "tripleheader on FOX."

Bisping (22-3) will enter the Jan. 28 fight undefeated in his last four fights. The Brit last Saturday earned a dominant win over Jason "Mayhem" Miller via third-round TKO at The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale in Las Vegas. Soon after, UFC president Dana White hinted at Bisping being a possible addition to UFC on FOX 2.

Maia (15-3) went .500 in two fights in 2011. Maia fought Munoz at UFC 131 last June to a close unanimous decision loss and then bounced back in October at UFC 136 with a safe decision win over Jorge Santiago.

The current UFC on FOX 2 lineup now looks like this:

    Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis
    Chael Sonnen vs. Mark Munoz
    Michael Bisping vs. Demian Maia
    Evan Dunham vs. Paul Sass
    Michael Johnson vs. Cody McKenzie
    Cub Swanson vs. George Roop
