Following various reports from MMA Junkie and Ariel Helwani via Twitter it has been reported that Overeem did not complete his out of competition drug testing in a "timely manor" and a full test wasn't completed in line with NSAC procedure.

Overeem was "swore in" on the phone and he explained the reason's for the delay in the test were due to his mother's health situation as well as being "thrown off" due to this this being his first UFC fight in Nevada as well as the testing procedures in Holland.

Overeem stated that his sample was taken on 7th Dec was done by his 'sports doctor' although he was unaware where he could get tested. Overeem says he's never done a full steroids test in Holland, so this is all new to him. Overeem expects results to be back this week.

Overeem stated he has not spoken with Kizer directly about this issue until now. His assistants were handling it, as far as he knew. Overeem says he didn't know he was asked to provide a urine sample before leaving Vegas to Holland. Overeem stated that the day after getting notice he needed to re-test, that he went in for another test. Overeem stated he didn't take any efforts to avoid testing and says he did everything he was asked by the NSAC through his assistants.

Overeem says he bought the plane ticket to go home on the 15th. Two days before the testing was requested. Overeem said he did not inform UFC he was leaving for Holland, but he never communicates directly with the promotion.

Overeem says he's never, ever had to go to a clinic for a test. He's used to commission coming to him. Overeem states he has never had to go to a lab and do random testing and he has taken pre and post fights from commissions but not randomly.

Commission says they are troubled by the lack of time between issuing order and test. Lack of appreciation for sense of urgency. NSAC states the options available are: "full license, no license, conditional license with further testing for six months after the fight, randomly"

License is conditioned on the dec 7 sample being negative and then a post fight sample. 2 other points in the next 6 months tested. Motion isn't seconded, more deliberation required.

NSAC suggesting Overeem come back to the U.S. and test here. Commission now discussing the possibility of Overeem going elsewhere, perhaps the UK, to provide a fresh sample. One NSAC member wants Overeem back in the US for a test, but Overeem staying in Europe til 21st so they might send him to UK testing centre.

They are bringing up the possibility of Overeem doing another test within 72 hours in Europe at an independant lab. Overeem would also have to test when he lands in U.S.

One of their concerns is that if the test comes up positive, they don't want to leave Lesnar without an opponent

Licence is granted based on a re-test within 72hrs as well as a test when he lands in the US on the 21st Dec on top of 2 random tests within 6 months post fight. All of this is at Overeem's expense.

Het is al voorbij. Zoals hier boven is vermeldt.

Beetje vaag.

Overeem-Lesnar Fight Threatened by Drug Testing Issue, but Still on for Now

Alistair Overeem's long-awaited UFC debut as well as a UFC 141 match with pay-per-view powerhouse Brock Lesnar was threatened after Overeem's request for a Nevada fighter's license was debated during the state's athletic commission in a Monday hearing.

In a meeting at the Grant Sawyer State Office Building in Las Vegas, commission executive director Keith Kizer told the governing body that he had difficulty in setting up a random drug test with Overeem after informing him of his intentions on November 17. Random tests are generally completed within 48 hours of notice.

And now, almost a month later and with less than three weeks to go until the fight, they have yet to receive test results from him.

Overeem, who was sworn in and gave his side of the story over the phone, explained that he provided a blood test which the NSAC acknowledged receiving. While that blood test -- taken on Nov. 23, six days after his original notice -- came back clean, it was not the proper NSAC mandated urine test, known as a "basic steroid panel."

Overeem said that after being notified of that, he took a urine test on Dec. 7, but neither he nor the NSAC have yet to receive the results. In addition, Overeem admitted that he took the second test at his personal doctor's office and sent it off to a lab in Germany.

As a result, NSAC was faced with a decision of whether or not to license him.

The Overeem debate took about one hour and forty minutes before coming to a conclusion. During it, Overeem was asked to detail the timeline from the moment he received notice of the test to the most recent Dec. 7 test. A commissioner explained that Overeem was given notice on November 17 and coincidentally returned to Holland from the U.S. on the same day. But he said he had not yet received word of the test, and had previously planned to return to Holland to help care for his ailing mother.

In one of the most pointed back and forths of the hearing, Overeem was asked if he made any efforts to delay the test, which would have offered him time to clear his body of any illegal substance he could have taken.

"I did not make any efforts to avoid any testing, and furthermore, I have done exactly what I was told to do by my assistants who were being told what to do by Mr. Kizer," he said.

Commission members later said they believed Overeem's version of events, but one commissioner noted that "the public wants to feel comfortable with this."

After a motion to grant him a conditional license based mostly upon the result of that Dec. 7 test failed, a compromise was offered where he would offer an observed urine test at an independent lab within 72 hours, the standard pre-fight test before the event, and then he would be subject to two random drug tests in the next six months at his own expense.

Overeem accepted the terms, which were approved by the commissioners in a subsequent vote.

As a result, Overeem has a conditional license, but will not be fully cleared to fight Lesnar unless the test comes back clean.

Nevada only recently began to ramp up random, out-of-competition testing after Gov. Brian Sandoval signed a bill into law that would increase funds for drug screenings. The change went into effect on July 1. The state has had the power to conduct random screenings since 2008 but often lacked the funds to employ it.

Kizer confirmed that Lesnar took and passed a pre-fight drug screening.

Overeem's difficulty in getting licensed for UFC 141 continues a rough stretch for the Dutch star, who recently filed a lawsuit against his former Golden Glory management team for their alleged refusal to fork over more than $150,000 he says he's owed. In addition, after beginning his training camp in the U.S., he recently returned home to help tend to his mother, who is recovering from cancer.

Overeem had been the Strikeforce heavyweight champion and participated in the organization's World Grand Prix, winning his quarterfinal fight against Fabricio Werdum in June. Shortly afterward, he was cut due to a dispute between his management team and Strikeforce parent company Zuffa. When he was brought back, he was signed on to the UFC brand and thrust into the midst of the heavyweight title picture, but after Monday's hearing, he still has some work to do to get licensed and ensure his participation on the Dec. 30 date.

    Here Are The Facts

    - Overeem was requested to take a random drug test on Nov.17
    - Overeem left the country on a flight to Holland on the same day. Nov. 17
    - Up to this day, Dec 12 Overeem has still not submitted a proper sample
Here are the things the commission took Overeem’s word on but have no supporting facts
    - He bought the plane ticket before he was notified of the test “no proof with receipt”
    - He wasn’t notified by his assistant of the test until days later after it was requested
    - His own “sports doctor” gave him a blood test which came back clean
So to summarize Overeem could have bought the plane ticket and left the country upon hearing he was being randomly drug tested. He could have had his personal “sports doctor” send in false test results. And all the time inbetween then and now he could have just been buying himself time. I’m not saying he did any of these things but he could have done all of them. The only thing Overeem has to support any of this is what he says. I was shocked they licensed him, he had no facts to support anything. All we know is that he didn’t submit the random drug test he was asked for on Nov. 17 yet…

    Bron: Sherdog.

Despite plenty of speculation to the contrary in recent days, the UFC 141 main event between Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem is still on schedule.

On Monday, the Nevada State Athletic Commission granted Overeem a conditional license even though the former Strikeforce heavyweight champion has yet to submit a satisfactory pre-fight urinalysis.

Overeem’s license was issued with three stipulations. First, Overeem must submit an observed urine sample within 72 hours at a NSAC-recognized facility in Europe. He will also be tested upon arriving in the United States from the Netherlands prior to UFC 141. Finally, Overeem will be subject to two random drug tests in the six months after his Dec. 30 bout with Lesnar.

While under oath, Overeem explained to the commission the conditions which led to him leaving the U.S. on Nov. 17, the same day the first sample was requested by NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer.

“I apologize for the delay,” Overeem said by phone during Monday’s meeting. “In my case, there were three factors involved. My mother is not doing so well, and that is why I moved my camp back to my country. Second, because this is my first fight with the state of Nevada and the UFC. Thirdly, because the procedures of testing in Holland differ significantly than the procedure in the States.”

Overeem said that he was not made aware of Kizer’s request by his assistant until he had left the country. He took his first test on Nov. 23, six days after the initial request.

“When I got the request to test myself, I took the test straight away,” he said. “When I got the results, I immediately submitted them, and I thought that should be sufficient for the commission. After a couple of days, I received notice that it was not sufficient and I needed to do more testing. I went back to the doctor and had my second test done, now with the full parameters provided by the state athletic commission. This was taken last Thursday, Dec. 7. The results are due (in) seven to 10 days, so I’m expecting them sometime this week.”

Overeem took a blood test instead of the required urinalysis on Nov. 23. Kizer said that the results of the blood test came back clean.

The commission’s greatest concern on Monday was the time between Nov. 17, the date Kizer requested a drug test, and Dec. 7, the day Overeem finally submitted to proper testing. The K-1 veteran denied that he had he had attempted to skirt the process.

“I did not take any effort to avoid any testing. Furthermore, I’ve done exactly what I’ve been told to do by my assistants, who’ve been told what to do by Mr. Kizer,” Overeem stated.

Overeem also cited a lack of familiarity with the drug testing method of the NSAC as another reason for the delay.

“It’s really hard to test myself here, and I’ve never been through this procedure before,” he said. “Every time I got the notice, ‘You have to go to the doctor to get the test done,’ I went the next day.”

Overeem was also asked about his lack of correspondence with the UFC during the ordeal.

“In training camp, I don’t communicate with the UFC -- my assistants do that for me,” he said.

While the commission ultimately recognized Overeem’s explanation as honest and was sympathetic to his personal issues, it also promised “more Draconian measures” the next time a fighter does not take a test in the allotted time frame.

Kizer said that since the commission reinstated random, out-of-competition testing on July 1, more than 50 mixed martial artists have been tested, with none experiencing delays similar to Overeem. Meanwhile, Lesnar was asked to submit a screening on the same day as Overeem and did so on Nov. 21.
