Jon Jones had perhaps the biggest 1 year that any MMA fighter ever has in 2011. In February, Jones defeated Ryan Bader to become the number one contender. Only 5 weeks later, Jones become the UF C lightheavyweight champion, defeating Shogun Rua by 3rd round stoppage. He has since defended the title against twice, once against Rampage Jackson and then against Lyoto Machida.
After his last bout with Machida, Jones expressed an interest to take some time off, but now into the New Year, Jones may want to get right back into action to repeat his 2011 performance. The UFC champion recently spoke to ESPN's Josh Gross:
"My goal is to finish every fight in 2012. If I do that, a lot of other things will fall into place naturally. I want to finish every opponent," Jones told ESPN.
"I've been thinking recently about trying to compete four times in the year again. I grew so much as a person that by doing that again in 2012 will just make me a better athlete.
"Originally I said I wanted to take off four or five months, but I may reconsider and come back sooner and have three or four fights this year."
